CX as a Winter Bike

I have been considering getting a CX bike for the winter, just looking at something different while not training and to keep things fun and fresh. Been looking at a few options, if i see any decent deals ill pop them here for you 
Depending on what your planning on doing on it my mate swears by his 1x drive chain so thats something worth considering. Not so important if your just going to use it for the road though.

Anything with mudguards, proper ones that is not clip ons
And I m well placed to say that after using clip ons for 10y
Whilst Im at it then 28-32mm tyres are pretty useful too in terms of ride comfort and security in the winter filth
Which means discs as regular calipers wont fit - they also work in the rain and gloop which is a bonus

As a winter bike, I would not buy the XLS. I should know as I did just that and it was a mistake. The cable routing for the disc brakes means you can't use guards like the raceblades. You might be able to use the ones where you buy attachments for the skewer, but you would need to check if you can still clamp the guard at the top and what you would clamp it too.
My disc brakes weren't hydraulic and I never had an issue with that.
The stock wheels on the SLX are also pretty weighty. Worth upgrading with a pair of crosslights or similar.

I can build a little slack into the brake lines so they shouldn't be a problem, but I'll need to do more to stay clear of the read shifter cable on the RH seatstay.
Whyte Suffolk? Full 105 and will take proper mudguards whilst wearing 28mm tyres.

If your not doing cycloX then maybe better off with a Focus Parlane which comes with proper mudguards and 30mm tyres as standard.

They are always having a sale. I don't think any of their frames have ever been sold at 'full price' When I have ridden my old Giant Defy back to back against my Planet X CX, I always prefer by Giant bike. However its not a 100% fair comparison as my Defy is fairly sorted and running RS80s and SRAM Force.
If I was to go back to mid distance commuting by bike (15m each way), I would buy an old Carbon Giant Defy Advanced Disc and fit One By gearing (SRAM), 28mm tyres and mudguards.
