Replacement car time - problem is
Discussion
Found a very likely replacement daily runner, looks all reasonable except one snag. That is it comes with a three month warranty, fair enough it's an old car 2008 with 80,000 miles up. However the warranty is with the company who seem to have a dreadful name in thier art of dodging warranty claims. Had a good read up about this company on 'Trustpilot' the reviews are truely diabolical. Seems to me that no cover will be afforded for the car in practical terms, of course it is formally covered under legislation on paper that is by most accounts 'not worth the paper it's written on'.
Seems a car worth looking at, miles good, service history good, car meets the spec' I have been looking for.
So if the worst happens two months into the warranty and I need to claim it seems, from many other persons experiences, I will be high and dry.
Thoughts?

The three month warranty claims aren't worth much. If you buy a lemon and it explodes within three months, you can require the dealer to repair or reject under the CRA15, so you're safe (though it can be difficult to enforce and you're only to expect a reasonable condition for a car of that age and mileage).
How much are you spending?
At the bottom end of the market a 2k car from a dealer is a 1k private car! Warranty will be practically worthless at that age /mileage due to exclusions.
Buy a decent private sale (not a driveway trader!) car that has been owned by the seller for a decent amount of time and with a good paperwork trail. You'll get much more for your money.

Thanks for all comments and advise.
Car is priced at £7000 I expect I be able to shave off £500 from list price.
Price is about right BMW 325i with good spec and good condition (visually at the moment).
Like the look of car and expect it to drive very nicely, if not obviously I don't buy.
Looked at a couple of private cars and disappointed. One purports to have FSH but probing found it was very poorly maintained.
Another was good but dreadful spec' and dealer priced.

1. Ask for price without warranty
2. Buy your own
3. After 3months what you doing anyway?
fter three months it's down to me and my wallet I suppose. Don't mind that after all it's not a new or even almost new car, pay me money take my chances. However, the first three months I reckon will expose any major problem reason the car has been moved on from previous owner, and that's what I would like cover for. Put another way, wary of buying a lemon.2. Buy your own
3. After 3months what you doing anyway?

Remember your buying an 8 year old car with 80,000 miles on the clock. If your worried about the warranty then go and buy new, if you want to minimise the risk don't buy a BMW (or anything VAG)
Haven't purchased a new car since my last ford escort rs, all of the new stuff I purchased during the 1980's all had problems within a couple of hundred miles!! My fun car was built in 1928, Humber 14/40
Why do you say don't buy bmw or vag?
