Ryanair having a bad week
Discussion
They can add a number of factors to the situation. They can look at the cockpit to see if there's anything untoward happening on the flight deck - that might not be able to be reported by radio, they provide a show of force to anyone on board who's planning anything they shouldn't, and as a final resort they can bring the aircraft down before it reaches a more sensitive target.

so, what i am unsure on is the capt was clearly in comms with london info/ farnboro/ stansted app/ whoever, so what do the typhoons add to the equation?
It wouldn't have been London info or Farnborough LARS they only provide ATSOCAS. It would have been London Control. To make sure it goes where it's told to go, and it's good practice.
