Looking for a new toy to go with my soon to be kumquat fisted VRs Estate and have narrowed it down to these 2.
The M2 is an M car - and looks the b
ks, and is mine for roughly £46k with a dealer discount and a few toys.
Ive been offered an M240i factory ordered with similar toys for £32k .... so £14k difference
Looking at videos etc, bar the M2 being more special looking (and sounding), there really is very little in it performance wise.
Anyone driven both and can shed some light?

There's a bit more than just a bodykit and an M logo for your £14k. Is it worth the premium over the 240i? I haven't driven both back to back but if I was in your shoes I certainly would. The M2 is an M car - and looks the b

From what I've heard, and read, the straight line performance is fairly similar but in the twisty bits it's a different story altogether as you would expect.
My wife has an M2 and I have driven an M240i for a weekend. If you can afford it take the M2 all day long. There is not much to separate them up to 7/10 ths. However once you get the bit between your teeth the M2 is much much better. On track at 10/10ths the M2 is astonishingly good. Not tracked a M240 but I followed one at Oulton Park last week and it was quick in a straight line but very wibbly wobbly in the corners and easy meat for my Megane Cup S.

I doubt it - my Cup S has never managed to match any of my M135i's lap times. Not that it matters.OP, M2s are now under £40k but I reckon won't lose much more than £300/month now for a couple of years, which will be similar to what a M240i would lose.
Both brilliant cars anyhow.

I haven't driven an M2 but had a M235i for a little over a year. It lacked in a few places for me such as suspension, no lsd and exhaust. To fix all that would be 5-6k? And then it still doesn't look as good as the M2, so I think the M2 is probably better value.
The M235i is a great daily but when pushing it on a b-road it starts lacking in places where I'm in no doubt the M2 would shine. If you can afford the M2, go for it. I know I would of.

I'm about to chose a 240 over the m2/rivals, coming from an e92 m3, I just don't need a 'track' car to potter around in with the rare occasional blast, so I'm choosing the 240 for the exact opposite reason you're considering one 
. I'm not sure a 240 qualifies as a 'toy' in my opinion, not with an M2 and it's similarly prices equivalents on the menu, even with your 240 price you could look at some more exciting (albeit more costly to maintain) prospects.

I did consider some others to put a smile on my face like a V8 vantage, an M5, a c63 (had a drive - did nothing for me) and a granturismo.
But as you said, these are all older cars and the bill soon start to wrack up!

Back to your original question. i reckon the cost of ownership will be pretty similar or even slightly in the M2's favour over a couple of years even though the purchase price is that much higher.

how so? even if M2 depreciates less in % terms, he'll still lose a fair chunk of the 14k difference. after 3 yrs that could be 5-8k extra cost over the 240.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
