Ok just decorated front room. Can be made dark.
Have about a 58" width chimney breast and want to fit a permanent 16-9 screen 60" or 72" 4-3 ( I watch a lot of old 4:3 films)...

All the fixed screen seem silly prices?
Why cant I buy a cheapish drop down one and just fix the material to some wooden battens/backing/mdf etc?
Make a frame or even just glue it to the chimney breast..

Also looking at the well priced Epson EHTW5300 any thoughts... Thanks

I can't really help on the screen, but if you were quite handy with DIY, there are plenty videos online how to make one from a kit.

On the projector, I was very tempted by the same one, but after talking with my local dealer they talked me into a BenQ. Can't remember his reasoning but I'm really happy so far. I probably should have went to get a demo of both before deciding, but thought I'd trust the experts

You can buy screen paint that works really well. Have a read here. https://www.avforums.com/threads/best-projector-sc...

We used to have a painted on one with the two part mix your self to suit your application system, it was amazing. Only down side is you can't take it with you and you will always have am odd coloured square on the wall. When we moved I bought a Luxburg pull down one thinking we could paint the wall any colour we like and take it with us when we move again. It's in front of a painted white wall. To be honest it;s crap, there is no difference between it and the white painted wall behind it. There is no gain at all.

I bought a large flat board from the local diy and painted it with a mix recipe I found on a forum. The people behind it had done a lot of testing so you could customize it to your room. In my case, I can watch the projected image even when my 12 down lights are on. The only time I can't watch is when direct sunlight is on it.

Paint has to be sprayed and it's around 14 coats with about 12 ingredients. But, it's worth it. My screen is about 110" and grey in color. My projector is as second hand epson.

Various companies sell projector screen fabric, so buy that and staple it to a frame - check used ads too as people often sell these.

Or you can paint, either using propriety paint such as Goo Systems or normal paint in a white/grey colour, online forums will have threads stating colour others have used.
