Took a 991.1 GT3 out today from a Porsche main dealer.
A few things before driving when checking over the car. Car did not have leather. I kow its a track car but at that price felt cheap compared to my 997 GT3 which has extended leather everywhere. Also the carpets,. My car feels like a Rolls Royce compared to the carpets in the 991. Quality is definately down on some materials.
Now to the drive, i had a good 40 odd miles to the dealer to have a good play in mine. Ride comfort is more compliant in the 991, soaks up the bumps better. Steering feels good, very direct, simulatr to my car that was just set up by Centre Gravity. 997 stering does move about a bit more, something i quite like most of the time. The 991 does give you confidence though, very good for electric steerin. PDK works brillant, quite supprised in sport mode and auto how good it was, holds the gears untill the red line.
Performance wise it is definately faster as all the numbers say, but to be honest as driver feel it didnt feel to far apart.
My car is 10 years old. Still has Porsche warranty untill November 2018, all services done by Porsche. I have owned it for 5 of them.
Strange feeling, but i know its newer, easier to drive, but, it doesnt feel £45 - £50K worth the extra.
Im sure i shall get told why i need to change lol
Thanks
Darren

Did you manage to get the most out of it by revving from 6k to 9k rpm as that's where all hell breaks loose smile

I was lucky when I had my 1st test drive in one as the car was still taxed so the sales manager threw me the keys and let me take it out for an hour. I didn't think I would like it (coming from a very track focused and hardcore 996 GT3) but I was amazed. The speed was on another level altogether and the sound something else too - but I used all the revs which made all the difference - used the paddles rather than auto also - helped with the experience.

Hi Ric
Yes was the GT3 at Colchester. Definately going to stick with Porsche. I do love the Mclarens driven a few now, There are great , but expensive to run with the warranty at £3,750 per year and servicing at £1,500 per year. Also known a few peole that have had problems.
My Gt3 has virtually trouble free for the last 5 years. A few things have been changed under warranty, but never let me down.
They di offer me a good price on a PX. It has helped that Porsche now warrant the GT,s for 15 years now.
How are you liking your new one.
Darren

I had a similar experience with my manual 997 GTS recently...I was given the keys to my OPC's 991.2 GTS manual demonstrator. Thought the 991.2 was a great car but I'd have had to write a cheque for £50k which I just couldn't justify for a car which whilst better in some areas was inferior in others in my experience.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this but I wanted to share the joy of reaching the pinnacle of my car-owning life, 5 years ago I sold my lovely 997 GTS that I'd had from new and which I'd bought as I had been unable to source a VAT-qualifying GT3 & following a crap 2016 having been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer (under control), on December 1st I take delivery of this beauty which is currently with Topaz for a full PPF treatment. Big shout out to Charles of TOP555 in Rutland for his help, honesty and professional approach to the whole deal. Will share more of the experience once the car comes to its new home in Cornwall

Doesn't matter where you make a post like that....many congratulations !!!! Y

ou often see on the American forums people saying "enjoy in good health" or similar which I find a bit "cringeworthy" but in this instance seems entirely appropriate.

Smokey12; good post to refresh the thread! When you get the car, I think it warrants a thread of its own. Hope you enjoy it.

Back to the OP, I know precisely where evodarren is coming from. Prior to buying my 997.1 GT3 I'd been weighing up all GT3 options within reasonable reach, given I was never going to be granted a build slot for a 991.2. At the top end of the 997.2 range, the gap to 991.1 is tiny. I decided to book the GT Experience at PEC Silverstone, driving cars which included the 991.1 GT3 and RS.

Whilst, despite what I thought might have been the case, I enjoyed and actually felt comfortable with the PDK gearbox, and despite both cars being exceptional, I also knew they were not for me. Brilliant, but not what I was looking for. Newer is not always better, or in fact worse, just different.

As my car is only used for weekend blasts, it's so nice to go out in a manual car. Don't always want to be chasing the revs and lighting gear changes. The 997 feels small and snug which gives extra room to move about in your lane. The 997 seemed to have more imotion.
If the 991 was my only car it would probably be my choice. I guess I will have to wait until the 991.2 manual become affordable
