Sub in rear shelf?

I know there have been many discussions about where to mount a sub speaker, but has anyone tried mounting one in the middle of the rear shelf?

I ask because I've got a sub speaker on the way, which would fit in place of the helmet hole. But I think a speaker in that looks a bit iffy;

I might try mounting the speaker in the shelf, then just making an upholstered pahel to replace the helmet hole completely.

The cavity behind the seats is bigger than I thought, loads of space there for bass resonance.

My Audison amplifier fits perfectly in the recess directly under the fusebox, cables go down the side of the tank then up through a gap into the area behind the seats. I powered the amp via a fuse straight off the big red wire that feeds the fuse box, and got the earth from a point on the chassis behind the seats that I attached a fat wire to. Works fine.

I think the Sub in the helmet holder looks ok, if you arent using it for anything else, lol.

I have a 10" sub mounted in mine..... soooooooo much better now

Was that alot of effort TVR-fan? How did you mount it? Did you put in an amp etc and where?
Cost? What headset and other speakers do you have?

I had to make a mounting for it out of MDF to go in place of the cubby hole thing, not easy due to TVR hand built cars meaning nothing is symetrical. Nothing to powerful needed as no one outside the car will ever hear it unless your stopped with the engine off!!! Just a 300 W sub and a 500 W amp at least i think thats what i have (may need to check)
Amp is in the boot mounted in true TVR style with velcro which actually works a treat. Power is taken straight off the battery via a fuse of course. The earth is taken from the chassis behind the seats. Wiring to and from the amp was easy as just behind the cd-changer in the boot there is a hole for other wiring to go through for relays and stuff.
Took me several hours to get the shape of the mdf mounting rite but not long at all to install everything.
About 150 quid for the amp and the speaker not top of the range but more than adequate for personal entertainment cos as i said before whats the point of exessive power when no-one outside the car can hear it anyway (zorst's popping and banging)

I've still got the helmet holder, so if I sell the car, then I can take the sub out.

The amp is in the boot on the inside of the n/s wing.

I mounted a 10” JL Audio in the hole as well, Joospeed supplied a new ‘copy’ of the helmet holder which I mounted an MDF & top front in to make a sealed ‘box’ that slips in & out same as the org for easy access to the bits behind, also so I too can refit the org if needed.
It took a lot of trimming to make fit like tvr-fan said. The pics were in Sprint about a year ago, in the modified feature.

Joolz will make the whole thing (or would a few years ago) but you have to leave the car with him because of the trimming to fit, as no two TVRs are the same.
