Then the cheapest car to do 200mph project, they selected a Lotus Espirit? Surely a 4.5 Cerb with some mods would have done the job?? £26k for a 425bhp Espirit modded......

Sorry, but I think they were very, very fair on them... they sang the cars' praises for the good bits, but pointed out they're far better as a second car. Which, after two years of denying it, I've had to concede myself. Having trim fall off both of the cars during the test is just asking for a slating...

Could not agree more. New owner, preaching reliability and build improvements, providing 2 demonstartors that should be of BETTER quality than production for review on 5th gear. Either TVR have not moved on at all or the guys responsible for maintaining these cars should be taken outside and shot.

Last night has allowed me to understand that TVR are still not ready for my return. Shame.

TVR's are bought for a purpose and that isnt to use daily to and from work (I know some do, but I bet they arent moaning about bits falling off, not that that should happen of course) and worry about TVR niggles.
They are bought to have fun in, bundles of fun, and Im just surprised it took me 3 or 4 years to get back in the fold, actually, thats what having a wife was all about I guess, stopping me having fun, lol.

To be honest, it wasn't clear to me how they arrived at the conclusion that they are better as a second car (even though that may well be true) based on the testing shown on the programme. Throwing the cars around a test track in the manner that they were doing is not really representative of the way in which most owners use a daily car.

I've used my Cerbera as a daily car for over 3 years now and I do not look forward to the day when I have to swap it for something else. I'd much rather have fun using the car every day of the week than purely as a second car - life is just too short. I look forward to getting into the car at the start and end of each work day and sometimes look for excuses to use it at lunchtimes if I'm not too busy at work. I get the same kick out of it now as I did when I first got the car, and the enjoyment from driving it on a daily basis is priceless.

As far as bits falling off are concerned, that was shameful. A missed opportunity on TVR's part to shake off some previous bad press. Having said that, and to put things into context, I have colleagues at work who have had much more reason to complain about their Mercs, Peugeots, Landrovers etc than I have about the Cerbera during my ownership.

Disagree. Possibly not on the Cerb/Griff/Chim front, but on the S6 front... which is why this is a difficult conversation/argument to have. Running my Cerb as an everyday car for month after month was fine. A bit risky, a bit costly, but fine.

However... running the Tuscan as an everyday car, was, well - ludicrous. I should know - I tried doing it! And, after 12 months of ownership, it had been off the road for more than 6 of those. OVER HALF THE BL**DY TIME. NOT an everyday car. And mine wasn't the worst one out there (and was one of the best by the time I sold it). It's the 2-3 months on an engine rebuild that really stung. Then the resultant clutch job that needed doing from it being sat around for 3 months. Then the extra 1k mile service. All of which are at a garage that's a round trip of 2 hours away. Silly, silly situation.

I use mine every day of the week and do a 65 mile round trip for work monday to friday, so far in two months of ownership it has been off the road for 1 week and i have covered nearly 5,000 miles so i will not complain when bits go wrong or fall off and actually expect it.
Most of the stuff i can fix myself so the expense should mainly be in parts.

Yes, sold it. Must update my profile. I was a hardened TVR fan (that was my 3rd in as many years) until I had the pleasure of owning that particular car. It went back to the dealer about 7 times in less than 5 months. It actually let me down 3 times (AA Flat bed) and suffered a number of 'limp back' episodes. All this from a car that was driven purley for fun and at most each weekend. Do the math, the love affair quickly turned sour. Became to concerned to enjoy it in the end.

PS The dealer (Fernhurst) were nothing less than excellent. No black mark on them.
