4k TV looks weird

We've just got a 4k TV and I am currently watching "Victoria" on ITV. It looks a bit weird, like the actors are performing against a pre-recorded background. It's a bit 3D.
Is this normal and something we will get used to?
What, you mean like HDTV? Where skin looks like Pollyfilla'd plastic. Is this normal and something we will get used to?

Its motion smoothing. Turn it off in the settings. Makes everything look like a soap opera or softcore porn.
I cannot find that setting, but the contrast was at 100% so I've reduced it to 50.Picture mode was on "standard" so I;ve put it on "natural".
Digital clean view, whatever that is, is on.

It's a Samsung the Frame and I don't recall seeing a disc. In fact there isn't a disc drive as far as I know.
The disc goes in an HD source (playstation, xbox/bluray etc) and you adjust the picture using the TV' settings and following the commands/images on the screen to set up the picture.I did it on my Bravia 4k, reccomend it. Was from advice on here, from Alfred.
Cheers Alfred!

Ah OK thanks, I had better have another look in the box to see if there's a disc.I did it on my Bravia 4k, reccomend it. Was from advice on here, from Alfred.

I doub you'll find a calibration CD in the box, they don't come as standard. As others have pointed out the problem you are seeing is called the soap opera effect. A quick google will give you all the background info on it but basically it's your TV trying to smooth out the picture by adding in extra frames which works great on sports but not so great when you are watching other stuff.
Every manufacturer calls it something different but on Samsung's it's called Auto Motion Plus I believe. Just go into your setup menu and switch it off and hey presto, no more Soap Opera TV. Some people don't notice it apparently but it's very noticeable to me and looks horrid IMO but I've been to lots of peoples houses who have this as it's usually on by default, when I change it they look at me as if I've performed magic.

I've left Digital Clean View switched on. Correct?
It was making me feel a bit sick last night actually. Some scenes were normal and then suddenly the two main characters stood out from the screen like 3D porns without the glasses, and the background became like a painting.

Not sure what digital clean view does tbh as each make of TV is different but TV image aficionado's would probably recommend turning all that stuff off as it messes with the "original image". I'm not one of those so say just go with what you prefer the look of.
The motion smoothing isn't something that should be on by default though as it noticeably effects the image. In fact topically there's been a bit of a hoo-haa from some Hollywood directors recently who want it turned off by default.

We had exactly the same feeling when we watched our first blue-ray on our Samsung - Sherlock (Robert Downey Junior version). Very very odd. Like we were walking around the set.
I'd forgotten about that: other films since have been fine, and TV in general all good. Ours is not a 4K tv mind.....I put it down to an odd recording of the film....haven't watched it since....
