Quite easily if you have the right kit.

You'd ideally want an MPEG2 encoder card (like, say, a Hauppauge PVR250) which, coupled with a low-spec PC (a Pentium II would suffice) and however much disk space you'd need, would do the job. If you fancied devoting some time, you could use Linux to achieve this with much better results for given hardware than windows, although granted 2000/XP would be a lot, lot easier to set up.

You could get away with a card without an MPEG2 encoder on it, but more CPU power would be required to encode the stream (low-spec Athlon or Pentium 3 1GHz off the top of my head).

Disk space is the only real deciding factor on how much you could record (and at what quality).

You've then got all the wiring to sort out....!

A colleague has a very elaborate CCTV set up on his home, which is routed through his computer and his main TV set. Doesn't cost much to set up really.

The best bit is that while sitting in his lounge watching TV with him the door bell rang.....he flicked over to the CCTV channel and could see who was at the door. If it's a friend with beer then you can go answer the door and if it's the local Jehovah's witnesses you can safely ignore them!

Of course bare in mind that if the PC is pinched so too are your recordings!
