I know that small single piston-engined American (N-Registered) aircraft are subject to less stringent maintenance requirements than the same British and European aircraft are, but I wondered if it were possible to convert an aircraft retrospectively from N-Reg to G-Reg?

I had a look one the CAA website, but can only find information on converting a FAA licence to EASA for flying within Europe.

Can anyone confirm if this is possible, and if so what sort of changes are required?

Many thanks in advance!

It happens quite a lot - the exact requirements depend on the FAA category the N-reg is coming from, and the class of CAA/PFA certificate or permit you want to put it on.

Sometimes there may be some minor engineering modifications required, but mostly just get ready to write some large-ish cheques and wade through a shed-load of paperwork....or just keep it on the N-reg in the UK.

Thanks to you both for the replies.

It's not something I'm planning on doing myself, I just noticed a few cheap (-ish!) planes in Europe which were marked as N-reg, hence the reduced price.

If/when I do go ahead with a purchase, there are plenty UK or European registered aircraft available!
