Weird one.....

Hi All
Before I describe this I will say I'll try my best to describe symptoms - I have a dentist appointment for next week and a GP appointment for tomorrow.
A few days I started feeling a weird sensation in my lower left inside gum - no discoloration and no pain. Felt like I had cotton wool stuffed inside my lower left cheek. Was due a check up at dentist so made an appointment for as soon as I could ( 16th ). Today this feeling has spread to my upper right gum/inside cheek. Again felt like cotton wool stuffed up there - no discoloration and no pain.
My colleagues whilst finding it funny that I said I felt like the Godfather then very seriously said your face is very puffy around the mouth. They convinced me to call the GP - the GP then called me as I got home. Prior to this as today wore on I started getting a very sore throat, banging head and felt drained all day. GP wants to see tomorrow morning after I'd said there is no airway problem.
Just had a hot meal and inside the areas mentioned (bottom left inside cheek and top right inside cheek) became very irritated and I can't stop licking the inside of my mouth. The corners o my mouth are also very irritated/feel inflamed - starting to die down as I write this.
My wife has double checked - no redness - no white spots anywhere - no obvious sign of anything. When I move my tongue over the areas the best way to describe how it feels is that they feel coated in something almost oily.
I know all of this sounds disgusting - its a very strange sensation. My oral hygiene is very good - no problems for over 20 years - never had any kind of gum disease previously. I'm 42 yrs old go to the gym three times a week and walk the dog daily - no overweight and generally in good health. I take daily meds for nerve damage.
I'm guessing that given I feel drained/sore head/sore throat I might be coming down with a cold/viral infection. I've just never experienced this gum thing....a tad worrying.
Thanks for reading - if anyone has had similar experiences - can offer any thoughts it would be appreciated.

Been to an emergency GP appointment - full examination and blood taken. She acknowledged my jaw area was swollen but basically said it was strange - gave me a strong anti histamine Fexofenadine hydrochloride. Advised to call 999 if tongue continued to swell. She basically thinks it has been a bad reaction to something - despite saying my other symptoms, sore head, fatigue etc sounds like my body is fighting an infection.
Another GP appointment on Friday morning.
Went from there to emergency dental appointment on GP's advice. Dentist said no sign of gum disease and despite my lips and tongue being swollen they are not sore when touched. Advised by her to have a soft diet for next few days - going back on Monday after we have time to see if anti histamine works and what blood results tell us. Told me my gums look very raw but no sign of blistering or any disease.
The effect of the anti histamine with ibuprofen has helped - got some relief yesterday and a bit today. Mouth still feeling sore today but defo less swollen. Taken a couple of days off and getting some rest - sleeping a lot but in general feeling better.
Perhaps it has been a reaction to something but it's very hard to pin down anything...mainly because I've been on a health kick so food perp well in advance and have been eating the same things for weeks. I'm a creature of habit with other other things - I like them and they work i.e same shampoo same shower gels same clothes detergents etc etc etc.
