I have not left the house since Tuesday night last week (rugby practice). so nearly seven days. I took the bins out on Thursday, but i don't think that counts. So, really, it has been over a week... I'm fine btw, friends and family have come over etc.

I work from home - colleagues are communicated with over Skype video and chat.

I have Zwift (turbo trainer) and various fitness applications for exercise - so exercise and personal training covered.

Deliveroo & Hellofresh for food, Amazon & tesco's for ad hoc deliveries.... so that's food and everything else covered.

I have TV, xbox, and internet - so that entertainment covered. I've thought about some VR glasses for more immersion.

Missus and son come and go as required, but if i didn't have them then i would imagine Tinder or whatever would replace it.

Is this the world we are coming into? No need to leave the house anymore?!

You should try going to the bank. They tell you off just for being there, and they try to force you to do it from home over the net. Then they try to make you use one of their machines inside the bank, rather than talking to one of their humans. They really don't want to have to associate with outdoor type people, and they are trying to turn us all into cabbages yes

There was an artist who tried to live a month without leaving home in the early days of the internet. He struggled but since then with delivery of food etc have come on somewhat.

I do similar. I start to climb the walls after 24 hours if I don't leave the house. Even for something as mundane as nipping to the shops for milk.
I have to make sure I make time each week to get out and interact with people in person.

Edit - But logistically, no, I don't need to.

I think it is YOUR life that enables you to live like this.

I've highlighted the above sentences:
-exercise really depends on what you're into, I have a gym bike and weights at home but I'm not a PBCD so don't have a tennis court in my garden.
-if you didn't have a family, no date on Tinder is going to come to yours for a first meeting. Well, there might be some but you probably don't want them to visit!! If they did, then I think the phrase "triple bag" is very relevant. And "lock up your valuables."

Funnily, I was doing this a few years ago, just due to the way work was. I'd be at home for 3 or 4 days at a time. It's why I got rid of the CLK 55 - the battery kept going flat as I might only pop out for the weekly shopping or to meet friends, so 10 minute journeys every 3-4 days.

Older people who aren't tech / internet savvy get depressed about not going out - my Dad did terribly - but I work from home and sometimes don't go out for a week and it doesn't bother me at all.

I've got to go out for dinner tomorrow night and I'd really rather not.

I should quote this is rather unusual for me - I think it's due to the rain/wind last week, and dark nights coming in, and becoming a new father in the last 8 months. I'm off to Peak District this weekend, then Paris for a couple of days, and then NYC for a couple of days, before back home again for Friday.

Surely with this being PH you should be taking the MX-5 for a blast! You could have the window open for some fresh air... I go insane when I haven't gone for a blast in over 7 days!

Just opened the window, lovely south westerly coming in from Wales and Cheshire.

Just opened the windows at the other side of the house and lovely breeze now coming through the house.

Cranked up the Febreze plug in for some fresh summer hints.

Out my window, if i lean far right, i can see the school run, people shouting at each other, traffic, and general carnage.

Do you technically need to? No. I personally love my own company so could spend many days indoors without much of a problem. Would probably end up getting cabin fever though and wanting to get outside, get to the gym, interact with people etc at least on a menial basis.

Having a dog is useful for getting you out of the house. I work from home often for report writing etc and do have a dog walker, but those times (mornings/evenings) where she isn't there to walk him, I will take him round the park (admittedly looking like a homeless train wreck) but it gets me out of the house.

My first thought was the people from Wall-E but then I say your post on Frivolous Purchases biggrin

Do you not find the turbo trainer terminally boring compared to cycling outside? I can happily go for an hours run outside but I'm bored stless after 5 minutes on a treadmill.

Guessing you're from Manchester.
If you get out in to the Welsh/Cheshire countryside, you can smell all that fresh air before it's passed over Davyhulme water treatment works.

I work from home too half the time, but I get cabin fever and have to take the dogs out at the end of the day.

I guess the problem I would have is that your wife is having to put up stale social interaction. You have nothing to bring to a conversation apart from that stuff she could google herself.

If she is fine with that then fair enough, but I wouldn't treat my wife like that

I am retired and at hone all day with the wife.
However I go to the pub everyday at 4.00 pm and my exercise is running from the car park to the bar.

Zwift has made it much easier - a interactive video game. Or i have a movie/tv show on the ipad. Can happily sit for a couple of hours and cycle.

I usually ride on the road, and have a winter bike, but proper ice and cold it is the turbo trainer - or when looking after the little one.

I work from home and am usually happier not leaving the house most of the week.
