KitchenAid stand mixers

Are they everything the hype (and price) promises?
The dearest wife has been hankering for one for a while and is grumpy that I have refused to buy her one for years - I'll obviously pick the wrong colour. So I might surprise her...
However £500 is more than I have spent on cars in the past.
Does anyone have one? Does it get used, or look pretty and gather dust?

I got my gf one last year, she adores it, it's the pride piece of "her" kitchen.
She bakes a lot, and did before I got it, so I knew it would be well used.
Lots just see them on GBBO and the like and fancy having one and never use them.
They seem like good quality kit, well made.
It cost me about £360 which seemed about the going rate. bigger ones are more like £500.

Thanks guys, she is a keen (and good) cook / baker so it'll get used I think.
Turns out there are a few models - do you have the mini / classic /pretentious artisan model?
I can't see much different other than size and cost tbh i.e they all have the tool attachment thingy.

make sure you click & collect if you want a specific colour. i wanted to get one for the OH's birthday but they didn't have candy apple red. ended up getting the blender which i thought would be overpriced crap but is actually decent with the different programs on it, makes cracking soup.

Thanks, I'll bob down to John Lewis this weekend and sort one out.
JL seems to be the easiest place to pick one up (need it for Weds).
Wait a few months then get it for her Christmas present JL seems to be the easiest place to pick one up (need it for Weds).

Plus if I get it her for Christmas and she buys me slippers I'll be on the receiving end of pout face all holiday for making her feel bad.
See, always thinking

Had, Artisan model, sadly lost it in the divorce!! Though I got to keep the KA toaster and kettle.
I will be getting another once set up in my new place, they're great although essentially I use it for pretty much just making bread.
Currently using my Mum's Classic while I'm staying with the parents, not sure the Artisan really offers much advantage aside from the choice in colour.
One thing - have a look around for offers, they're rarely offered at a discount but often with various promotions to include extras - when I bought mine it came with the Ice Cream maker

Kill two birds with one stone. Christmas is around the corner, and this seems a perfect Xmas gift. Women love receiving kitchen appliances for Christmas presents.
See my earlier explanation
She asked for (and received) a socket set last Christmas

Be aware that is the 6000 which is a semi-professional machine, not the domestic Artisan model.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
