On Sunday I left the m11 and briefly joined the a406 to then merge onto the a12 via the Redbridge roundabout.
The phasing on the lights isn't great but I've driven that way plenty before. Anyway I was accelerating smartly but within the limit when I saw the lights were about to change.
I went through the lights, I am fairly certain , when they were in the Amber phase.
On Wednesday j receive a nip in the post. No pictures as there isn't a camera there. The nip says ''manual detection'.
Does this mean that there was a police car , undercover or otherwise, that saw me allegedly go through the light and they then processed the paperwork which generated the letter?
This seems odd to me as I'd like to see the in car footage if so, because dependant on where they were I could have very easily, and legally, have gone through on Amber. Also if they were a car or whatever's distance away, why didn't they pull me over at the time ?
If it's the case I didn't, then fair enough I have to pay the price. But am I entitled to see the pics or in car footage ?
Ta v much.

So did the lights suddenly change? The phasing on the lights isn't great but I've driven that way plenty before. Anyway I was accelerating smartly but within the limit when I saw the lights were about to change.

does accelerating smartly but within the limit allow you to ignore hazards on the road ? - I was under the speed limit officer but could not stop in time for the bend, stationary traffic or traffic lights?
Traffic lights/junctions are hazards.
Im sure you have now looked it up - "AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident. " HC.
You have not mentioned the car that was tailgating you? Wonder if he got a NIP as well or perhaps there was no car behind you - what do you think?
I think you have won a NIP correctly I'm sorry to say.

To help the OP - try giving the issuing police department a call to see whether they can elaborate further on what evidence was gathered.
Other than that i suspect its a case of contest it and go to court. What penalty are you being offered 3 points and £100?

You don't seem too sorry......
As far as I am aware there are no traffic signal cams on the Redbridge roundabout. The traffic lights are all permenant lights.
I was at what I considered to be the point of no return when I noticed the lights changing to Amber. I could have tried to stop, but there was a car behind me , and I'd have been partially blocking way of the next section of traffic that was about to set off on the right had that attempt been successful.
I don't mind the ticket if I indeed went through a red , but also wouldn't mind looking at what the evidence is.

Ah so now you mention the car behind you...... funny that. I was at what I considered to be the point of no return when I noticed the lights changing to Amber. What was the speed limit there?
What is the phasing of the lights? Green in the distance and then what will it be? have a guess? So do you accelerate as fast as you can hoping to get through but if they change cant stop in time? or drive a bit more gently so you can stop in the distance of the hazard if they change?

I can only assume you've never had the pleasure of driving round the Redbridge roundabout.
so you know the area and layout well? I would suggest that it is even less of a poor excuse then.No I don't know it but do understand how traffic lights work.
There are plenty of lights where doing the speed limit will not allow you to stop in time if they change to stop. Hence you drive according to the hazards you can see.
Is that not a fairly normally way of driving? perhaps not.
If you want to post up a google map view which may help.

I was driving a 1.4l Citroen Xsara by the way. With your foot to the floor in 2nd it won't be setting the world alight, believe me.
but you still went through a stop light. any feking car can be driven badly or through a stop light. So how fast were you going? Whats the limit there. You said you weren't over the limit - driving at the limit does not absolve you from thinking about the hazards around you and planning for them. A traffic light is a fairly easy one to spot and uncontentious as it doesn't drive around either and tends to be predictable in what its going to do.Who_Goes_Blue said:

Not here to rescue anyone. I cant see there is a defence. To help the OP - try giving the issuing police department a call to see whether they can elaborate further on what evidence was gathered.

Hopefully given some good advice on improving the OP driving so that he doesn't get an NIP in the future for crossing a stop line when the lights were on Stop.
If you cant see that then I'm sorry to you as well.

Amber is stop if safe to do so. The OP believes it was amber when he went through. That is not an offence.
