Fleet insurance
Discussion
So we've just expanded to 5 cars and will have 6 by christmas. Currently the cars are insured under 2 owners, the fifth we have no NCD left.
How does fleet work, does it go as the business accumulating NCD and the cars share the NCD, does a crash affect all of the cars? Would we be able to start with NCD from one of the directors?

At the 5/6 vehicle size there are both NCD rated and "fleet" rated products. How does fleet work, does it go as the business accumulating NCD and the cars share the NCD, does a crash affect all of the cars? Would we be able to start with NCD from one of the directors?
A fleet rated product will take an average of the claims costs and work the premium from that. NCD rated will rate each vehicle individually.
If the vehicles aren't owned by the business you will be restricted in your options as not all insurers will quote for you if the vehicles are owned by the directors rather than the business.
Are you trying to achieve a premium saving or increase flexibility of usage within the business?
Thanks, We have increased by 2 cars so far this year and have 2 trainees which will see us grow atleast 1 more car around christmas, we want to be able to scale up the cars as and when needed and get reasonable insurance cover, currently new addition is going to cost us around £4000 a year to insure if we can't get a better deal. (currently no NCD applied to it) - it's also worth noting its a driving school so it is specialised, high mileage insurance.
We want to phase onto fleet if it is a better solution, as all insurance policies are individual at the moment.
Our claim history isn't great, only 1 non fault accident this year (rear ended), one currently being disputed (front end collision third party pulled out on our driver) we can generally have 3-4 non-fault accidents per year, most normally rear enders, over the last 15 years we have had 1 at fault and one 50/50 and probably 30 non fault rear enders. All are low cost generally new bumper type repairs, the hire cost can escalate though (dual controlled)
