I'm just about to buy a 2016 3litre diesel RR sport which is euro 6, I love it and the engine is ideal as my DD in London. However the salesman is trying to convince me to buy the new model in petrol as he says all diesels will be worthless in London in 5/6 years time. Is he right or just trying to make me spend more than my budget?

Unless his Mum runs the Cabinet, he's guessing. He's probably not wrong though. There is a growing notion that Diesels are Evil, and Evil leads taxation and banning.

Buy it on a PCP, even if you don't want/need too and have the GMFV as the stop loss. If the world changes you have a fixed your losses. These cars suit big diesels, maybe sales of the super minis is being affected by the diesel issue, but big RR's need 'em....get your order in for an I-Pace to hedge your bets wink

That will last as long it takes for the majority of car owners to switch from diesel to petrol, then it will become the next evil so that the government can once again squeeze the majority.

I looked at swapping Fiona's X3 for a Disco Sport when they came out, but there was no Si4 petrol available, and after the sales guy spoke to LR they came back and said it would not be offered in the UK as no one wants them.

I looked again yesterday and it is now there.

I also spoke to Mercedes about the petrol GLC at the time too and was told the same, but heard yesterday that they are adding the GLC 250 petrol very soon.

Things are changing, and I think the P380 is the nicest engine in the RR range currently, hope they do sell a few as I would love to jump into a MY18 RR in a couple of years time.

Should also add, there seems to be a growing failure rate on the SDV6 3.0 engine, have a look on the RRS, Disco forums. Lots of new engines at £16000 a pop.
