I need to get a new car as I sold my Corsa 1.2 sxi (2005).

I'm not sure what to go for. I have a few requirements:

- Less than £1000
- Petrol preferably as I do really short journeys. (5min drive to the train station)
- Something fairly quick and fun, I liked how nippy the corsa was.
- Hatchback as I park on a residential road and it is hard to find space.
- Reliable
- Stable on the Motorway as I occasionally will go for a long drive.
- Sporty, or looks sporty.

I was looking at Golf mk4 1.9 tdi, as the performance is similar to the gti, but road tax and insurance not as high. I don't think the mk4 has dpf so short journeys should not be an issue. I might be wrong.

I was also looking at the Honda Civics 2000-2005 and they do not seem too bad either.

Any other suggestions?

"Sporty" ... and you want a diesel golf. Hmm.

In all honesty, in the sub £1000 I would focus on a long MOT, condition and history rather than a particular car. Some suggestions:

BMW 323Ci

Seat Toledo 1.8 Turbo Sport 4dr

Mitsubishi Colt

Honda Prelude 2.2

Focus ST170. Probably not the greatest example for £1k but they're quickish and being a Focus there are plenty of spare parts around when required.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The BMW looks appealing, I think that would be fun to drive. Bit big but I should be OK with the parking space.
