Someone who I have on my Facebook account wrote to me:

'Just because you don't always talk to friends doesn't mean they aren't always there for you. Also, please never assume a person doesn't care about you just because they haven't told you so... I hope today has made you realise how many friends you have smile '.

What does the ellipse mean in this context? Also, do you think that the two people I have wrote about in this thread are my friends? I am always on my own and can feel lonely at times so don't see how I can have friends...

As I replied in your other thread, it is likely mis-used. People use them all the time when they want to indicate a place at which they would pause when they speak, as when you talk to someone you don't usually talk in sentences that are written down.

Yes, they are your friends.

Human interaction is a funny thing. I can go long periods of time without seeing people that I consider to be friends, because we live miles apart and both have work and family life to contend with. But, equally, if I send someone a text message or an email or Facebook message, someone I haven't seen or spoken to in a while, I will get a friendly response. Friendship usually starts on the basis of regular contact, but that isn't what keeps it going all the time.

With the best will in the world, I think you should step away from the internet for a while. Why not phone the person and thank them for the message, and have a chat.

It is much easier to pick up emotion and meaning verbally, than via written text.

I use ellipse all the time, I use it as a signal for the other person to fill in the unspoken gap.

What this person means explicitly is " I personally haven't told you that I care, but just because I haven't, don't assume that I don't"

Tom,

Your last few threads have been asking "what does this mean" or "Why did the person use this word" etc. I cant help but feel you need proper advice from someone in person, not a random bunch of people on what is a car forum. It won't take long before you ask for advice on a reply in a thread you started.

I hope this doesn't come across harshly but I strongly recommend you see a professional.

Speak to someone professional and stop asking what people mean all the time.

Yes I am being direct.

I wish that I could just get better at interpreting things but I can't. That's why I don't socialise and get so isolated at times.

Or just condense it all into one thread, i'm sure people will still offer good advice and insight, but at least it keeps it all in one place then smile

Tomm98 - I think you would be best served to have one thread where you ask any question that comes to mind.

So create a new thread and call it something like "Please can you help a person with Asperger's" and put all your requests in there.

then those who want to help will help and those who want to take the piss can stay away.
