Hi

Maybe the wrong forum to ask this but here goes!...finding that we don't need 2 cars for our household now, so thinking of selling the Alfa. I'm a named driver but not the primary driver on the missus car, in order to keep our no claims if we go down to 1 car, can you keep swopping the main driver each year to preserve no claims?...Had a quick google and seemed to suggest that you have 2 years before you lose it?

Many thanks

It's nothing to do with the main driver, but the policyholder. Every 2 yrs, you'll need to lapse the existing policy and take out a new one in the other's name. 2 yrs in her name, 2 yrs in your name, etc.

That's nearly correct - except that usually no claims bonus follows the policyholder, who is not necessarily the main driver. So you need to take out the policy in your name one year, and your wife takes it out in her name the next, and that way you can keep both NCDs active indefinitely (assuming no claims, of course).

If one of you uses the car more than the other (eg one of you uses it to commute) then you should make sure that person is declared as the main driver if you're asked, though many insurers will not care where husband and wife are concerned, and even if they do care it's unlikely to make much difference to premiums if you're roughly the same age and neither of you has a terrible driving history.

(I see Twig types faster than me)

You can't say that, this is PH. You need to follow the rules:

1. Ask for expert opinion
2. Receive expert opinion
3. Slag off the expert, tell them their industry is full of crooks and you don't know how they sleep nights.
