Looking for a little advise.

Street lamp outside our house has recently been changed to one of those white led ones.

The lamp is only a couple of metres from the bedroom window so lights the whole room up even with the curtains shut.

Due to this I turned the thing off. No damage done, just open the panel and flicked the switch.

Have I committed crime damage? A mate seems to think I have

No, because it's servicable by turning it back on. Unless you vandalised the cover to get st the switch.

However, its a bloody selfish thing to do - buy some thicker curtains (we did just this, so I'm not just talking out of my backside) or ask the council to put a shroud round the back of it.

Lol

Got to love piston heads.

You couldn't resist the smart arse comments.

I have brought black out curtains. However the light is so bright it still lights up the whole room.

It's not damaged and no doubt will get switched back on by highways shortly. If only to get switched off again that evening

They must be pretty crap blackout curtains then. Maybe be constructive and ask the council to put a plate on the back to limit spill into your house?

Buy some better black out blinds and stop being a dick and turning the streetlight off.

I have a very bright led street light outside my window, but this was easily solved with proper black out blinds.

What's smart arse about two workable and sensible suggestions, one of which I have done myself, and the other I have seen done... And neither involve affecting everyone else being able to see that uneven kerbstone/ low wall/ insert other trip hazard here. Or tying up a highways engineer to come and investigate why lamp AB123 isn't working.

You could always rearrange your house to sleep at the other end away from the light...

This. If they don't respond then talk to your local councillor.

When I had a similar situation the council very quickly agreed to fit a shroud to the lamp on the side facing my house, so I agree with others above who have suggested this course.

What's the problem with finding an actual solution to the problem, as suggested.

My previous house had a light just outside the window, blackout blinds did an excellent job.

You could have worked harder in life so as not to be in the position of having a street light outside your bedroom window.

(FYI that's a smart arse answer, the other answers were actually quite constructive hehe )

I'll keep an eye out, but I doubt he'd show his face round here.
