Hi All,
Had the check engine light come on, on my 2005 BMW 130i. Would like to get a gizmo to investigate it myself, but I am very tech unsavvy, to say the least, and want to buy something I can easily use. Example of my unsavviness: can use a computer to surf the net, send e-mails etc, but not a lot more; have taken my time navigating my way around the first smart phone I've had for a year or so.

So, what I need is an idiot proof OBD II reader and app, that will work with an iPhone 5S.

What would you kind and learned folk say is the easiest? Thanks

The cheapest and easiest option would be an ordinary cheap BlueTooth OBD II reader, and a smartphone app like Torque Lite for the display.

For an iPhone you’ll need a WiFi OBD2 device NOT a Bluetooth one - they aren’t compatible with iPhone bt protocols

In addition I use Carista and it works perfectly every time on our Audi’s and Renaults and it supports a vast amount of vehicles and the paid version (only about £20) is a well worth upgrade
