Discussion
Just spotted this - you are very welcome to a ride in mine, I live in Sevenoaks. Can't do this weekend but days this week are fine
You're probably a bit far away though.
To add to your Noble / Ultima / 993TT debate... there's a world of difference between the two Porkers and the two mid-engined cars. I haven't had the fortune to drive an Ultima but I did own a Noble (the 2.5 litre M12). Initially the Noble was more exciting (light weight, turbo rush, MAD dump-valve noise) and certainly attracted a lot more attention, but ultimately I've ended up going back to a 993, time and time again (check my profile: dabbled with Lotus, Noble and TVR and in each case bought another 993 afterwards
)
The Noble was fun but damn impractical - and I don't need to cart stuff around, but even driving down to my mate's place in Wales for a few days required real consideration regarding luggage. My old man gave me a case of cider cans when I saw him in it: I had to take each can out and put them in the car individually. Major pain in the arse.
The 993s are practical enough to use as an only car, but you'll need to make it a bit more 'special' to compete on the heart front... it cries out for a sports exhaust, and N/A cars need more power. You can either get a 993TT or supercharge a N/A 993, the Turbo will be quicker with 408 (?) bhp unless you go lower compression and intercooled with the blower.
The 'standard' supercharger conversion on the 993 feels like a normal 993 with a 5 litre engine. Easiest way to describe it. I'll probably get 9m to push it a bit farther eventually but got to do the brakes and suspension first.
One thing I've learnt (after thousands in depreciation swapping cars) is that the Lotus / TVR / Noble may be bloody exciting for a short while (6 months or so), I always end up wanting a 993 again for its depth and flexibility. Ideally for a petrolhead you'd have a double garage with an extreme British sportscar AND an Audi RS6 or something like that... unfortunately I have no garage and only enough time to enjoy one car!!!
Also, if you want to make a 993 sound like a TVR V8 with no silencers, then I have some Supercup exhausts for sale
they truly make a mental noise...

That's it, nail on the head, the 993 is so easy to live with!
Hmmm, a 993 with a 5litre engine, i like the analogy.
Colin's site seems to be down at the mo but i think i need to give him a bell...
You still got the Supercups? How much do you want for them? If they're cheap enough i may put them on for the Le Man trip
VS
edited to add: i have RSR's on my 993 at the mo and they make a nice noise

The 9m site got hacked by an Ebay email scammer, so the domain name was shut down - Colin's still there but it may be a while for the website to come back up...
As to my supercups - I'd want at least 300 quid for them, I only used them for a month or so until I got the supercharger fitted, along with some slightly less lairy pipes
They sound awesome, like a racing car, but unacceptable at most trackdays. Also there's resonance at 2-3k rpm. Mail me if you're interested

Here is a link to a piccy of a supercharged 993 engine with intercooler (from the TPC website).

Any idea what the silver box is on the bottom left of the picture?
Cheers!

^^ that's a 1.5 MB highres picture, watch out modem users
The car appears to have a big tail spoiler fitted, I wonder if the intercooler would fit under the standard spoiler? I want to retain the 'stealth' aspect... the intercooler looks much smaller than the turbo one (probably a air-water chargecooler by the looks of it).
No idea on the box on the left, I don't have one on my car. Good to see that even the intercooled conversion can retain the air con though, not that 993 aircon is much good

The chargecooler will just about fit under a standard engine lid. The silver box on the left is the header tank for the water system. The chargecooler uses an air-water-air heat transfer process, so you will have a matching water radiator up front of the car to dissipate the heat, an electric pump to circulate the water and the header tank shown to bleed the air out and fill the system. Ballpark price for the kit fitted to an existing conversion is £2000+VAT, although with custom remapping of the digibox add approximately another £500 on top.
The website is now up again, but we are taking the opportunity to revamp it a little. Seeing as no-one really wants to buy oil filters or brake discs off us at the moment we are concentrating our efforts on making it easier for me to load up to the minute info on current projects as well as our well knowm Motec conversions and the like. More on this later.
