991.2 GT3 LHD pricing
Discussion
Not sure if this has been touched upon recently as I did not have the stamina to go through the entire 991.2 GT3 mega thread.
Over the weekend I hatched the great plan of buying a LHD car from Germany. As others have found out (Shmee150 for example), it is easier to get an allocation in Europe. There is also the small bonus that German car insurance often covers Ring activity (I think).
Anyway, when I had finished my ideal spec and compared like for like, the Euro price came out at €174,818 compared to £127,129. That’s an implied FX rate of €1.375 to the £. At today’s FX rate of say 1.12, that makes the same car 23% more expensive in Germany if you are a UK buyer. I also did the same exercise in Czech Republic where I spend some time and it is even worse, at 32% more expensive!
I was expecting a difference due to weak Sterling, but not that much. So, for Euro made imported goods get in while you can before the prices go up.
I guess for Schmee150, if you buy in Euros and sell in Euros and have full insurance cover for much Ring use then it all makes sense (Tim, care to share your insight?).

Porsche have for a long time given UK buyers an unusually good fx rate and never changed it by a lot the last time the £/€ rate was similar in 2009/10 either.
I guess the bigger question is - do you want a car badly enough to pay the extra premium to get in. As you said, if you sell in euros later it's the same for everyone in the continent. You'll make less obviously, potentially a good bit less than a UK list buyer but you'd have to get a car from a UK OPC first....

English written press and social media content typically get better global coverage. I suspect Porsche keep UK prices (and supply) on halo cars artificially low to guarantee magazine season awards, group winner, market hype, etc. It is basically a big marketing exercise with great impact. Maybe they still make some money on these.
