Afternoon all. Up until January 2017 the last computer game i played was on the spectrum 48k.
I january i bought a PS3 for peanuts to scratch an itch. Since then I've completed Lego Star Wars and currently playing Red Dead Redemption. This game is excellent.

I recently bought a PS4 Pro (impulse) and looking to buy a few games that will hook me in like RDR.

Current PS4 games i have are:

Star Wars Battlefront - quite enjoy it but its not got me gripped.
Drive Club - a bit rubbish IMO.
The Order 1886 - looks great but too many cut scenes and its quite restrictive in its open world play (it it open world?)
Assassins Creed Syndicate - Enjoying it, looks great but not got me hooked like RDR.
Watchdogs - a bit rubbish

I keep going back and playing RDR (which i will continue to play as I'm playing it with a friend) but i'd like a game that cant wait to get back to for the PS4.

I prefer very atmospheric games, would love the game to look great too but as RDR has taught me is that graphics aren't everything. Ideally something that's just not wave after wave of enemies to kill.

Looking forward to some suggestions.

Thanks

Oh man, you need to play Alien: Isolation!

A very clever and atmospheric FPS. It isn't all guns blazing; it is much more focused around stealth, problem solving and being tactical. The graphics are incredible and the constant feeling of being stalked by an Alien is very unnerving. A true sequel to the original Alien film.

Other than that; The Last of Us Remastered is a must. Very story driven, 3rd person shooter. If you like RDR, you will definitely enjoy it. Rightly considered one of the best games ever to be released on Playstation.

As mentioned, Alien is one of the best games of this generation.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Witcher 3 are must play games for me.

You seem to have a very similar opinion on the games you've listed as me, so I'll put my 2 cents in.

Worth noting that Red Dead Redemption 2 should be out early next year.

Until then, Just Cause 3. Kept me hooked for months, and I'm usually a very casual/selective gamer. There's some great DLC packs that add a good few more hours too. Honestly couldn't recommend it enough.

I also really enjoyed Wolfenstein The New Order. FPS are not usually my sort of game, but very entertaining. Again I think a sequel is on its way soon. I havent played it but I hear the latest DOOM is along similar lines and gets great reviews.

The last 2 Tomb Raider games (since the reboot), have been superb.

Even better than Tomb Raider, but on a very similar theme, the Unchartered series can't be missed. The latest was the only game I can remember where I enjoyed the cut scenes as much as the gameplay.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, The Last of US is on my radar, as is Horizon Zero Dawn. HZD looks stunning on the trailers, however, I'm not too excited by the robot animals.

For some reason i thought Alien Isolation was a PS3 game but like i said, I'm a newbie to all this.

I'll start by looking for these.

Those Uncharted games do look good. I used to enjoy watching my mate play tombraider on his PS1 possibly. do you think i could drop straight onto that Uncharted The Lost Legacy without the backstory of the others?

I haven't played The Lost Legacy, it's like a standalone game in the series with different characters. The last main game was 2016s Uncharted 4, A Thiefs End. Yeah you wouldn't need to play through them all, there's about 5 years between the games, so I've usually forgotten everything by the time a new one comes along anyway...

You can buy the first 3 Uncharted games in a pack for peanuts. Well worth it if you’ve not played them before.

It's an amazing game. There's more to it than "robot animals".

I'm a casual gamer, but i've been playing it for months when I get the odd free evening. It's so immersive. I'm right at the end of the game and I don't want to play it again until the DLC is out, so I can complete it and then continue with the DLC.

I've been gaming for over 30 years and it's easily in my top 5.

I'll have to have another go at Skyrim as I couldn't get in to it.

I just need to convince my wife that we need a 65" 4k TV!

Do you need to / is it worth playing the earlier games in the Elder Scrolls series before playing Skyrim, or is it pretty much a stand alone title?

I have a 55" 4k android TV but only a standard PS4. I wouldn't mind a Pro to get the best out of the TV but according to Amazon at least they're £350. For the presumably relatively minor benefits that would even then only be applicable to the games that make use of the additional power, i can't get the man maths to add up.

Not really, they're related by lore but there's rarely a direct connection between games. Skyrim is set a couple of hundred years after Oblivion.

They are worth playing as a fan. The older games can feel quite clunky to someone who starts at Skyrim though.

Fallout, buy 3 and vegas for your PS3 and 4 for the PS4. Get divorced.

A game I cannot stop playing - I veer towards Fallout 4 periodically but will inevitably end up playing Skyrim. Would you be able to quantify how mich difference a 4K TV and Pro PS4 make over the remastered edition on standard TV and PS4? The reason I ask is the side by side comparisions on youtube are not normally much use. If it is a tangible improvement I can well see an upgrade on the cards!

I'm a long time Fallout fan too as well as Elder Scrolls.
There is a noticeable difference as I had Skyrim running on a decent 1080p telly when it first came out.
The depth of field or 3D effect in 4K is what I noticed and some of the woodland scenes past the bridge where you always have a fight with the occupants is stunning in Skyrim plus Fallout 4 looks a lot better too.
I've got my system set up in a separate room with a decent surround sound system too which all adds to the effect. I've got a fairly top of the range 50 inch Samsung UHD telly which is really good but I would suggest you look at some older model OLED's because of the detail in dark places, that's what I'll be buying next for certain. The new GT 6 is stunning too.

Its been a while since i posted my original OP. I finished Red Dead Redepmption on the PS3 then sold it all on a bundle.

Anyway, took your advice re: PS4 games and have since finished The Last Of Us Remastered. Wow, what a game, what a story. It was just epic. Almost made me cry at least twice. Only problem with TLOU is that now i judge every game by its standards. A lot of disappointments followed.

Ive tried to buy cheap (tight fisted) so ive bought games form the likes of CEX, Ebay etc and if i havent gelled with them after a nights play, i sell them back on via ebay. Generally ending up +/-£0.

Bought Wolfenstein The Old Blood. Played it for a night or two then sold it back on. I really wanted to like this but i didnt. Same story with Metro redux and fallout 4. I am currently playing Uncharted 4 and loving it. I guess i am about 50% through and just bought Uncharted Lost legacy for £13 to start when i finish No.4.

I bought Battlefield 1 and find it very very hard but sticking with it. Only play about an hour or so every few weeks. Its a bit full on for me but enjoyable. Looks stunning too.

Ha Ha, nearly forgot. I bought Reident Evil Biohazzard, I can only play that during the day or when i have friends round. 65" tv and surround sound make this one hell of a immersive and scary game.

I am hoping that Uncharted 4 and Lost legacy will keep me going until RDR 2 is released in the spring time. if its delayed again, i may try the Tomb Raider ones. Any advice on which ones best. Tomb Raider Definitive Edition or Rise of the Tomb Raider?

Thanks again

I picked up Skyrim for my PlayStation4 after getting frustrated with GT-Sport's DualShock control issues over the new year break. I bought my PS4 is for casual gaming in the living room, so cockpit is not suitable for me. I actually bought the old version of GT with my PS4. **** in Game did tell me it wasn't compatible, so ended up waiting nearly two years for GTS. Argh. Anyway gaming has taken a back seat to video streaming on my PS4.

I'm enjoying Skyrim, got my first Dragon kill attacking the Guard Tower, just about to restart a new character after getting to grips with the controls, but still struggling with setting up my favourites. I went looking for Skyrim mod recommendation, Google know me too well, this was a top link in the search results. yikes

My PS4 games:
Drive Club - I agree, very meh, the visuals are beautiful but it completely unengaging, not sure why, works much better than GTS with a DualShock.
Gran Turismo - Two player is fun, frustrating control issues with faster cars using a dual shock at higher levels.

So any recommendations for mods for Skyrim on PS4? I'm taking the no cloud map and rich merchants. I'm looking for modest buff to carry, so I don't need to return to base every time I kill four bandits. There appear to be a lot of recommended immersion mods for followers and Citizen that look good, but not decided which to use yet.
