Well, well, well. Someone has been looking at the Denise Richards Playboy pictorial on my Powerbook. When I find the bugger, there will be hell to pay.

Problem is, much to my heartstopping amazement, when I was sitting down with the Mrs, I emptied the recycle bin and.........

F######CK! There is a shot of Miss Richards on the pop-up which asks you to confirm if you want to empty recycle bin! Where the hell did that come from? I deleted the pic from the folder where this scoundrel obviously keeps his library of filth but it is still there! Now, the Mrs is completely liberal about porn usage (read, no option other than to accept) but Denise Richards and a long, long, long list of other birds are she perceives as a threat are a no no.

How the hell do I get rid of it? I know how to do every single cosmetic change to windows but not for Macs. I am sure I didn't put it up there as I hardly use the thing.

HELLLLLLLLLP!

That's an odd one. For a starter I would suggest doing a search for files (possible restricting it to applications) created or modified in the days before it appeared.

Also, take a look in your browser download manager for supicious files. The odds are that it was actively downloaded, rather than a surreptitious virus.

Is this OS-X?

If so, the easiest thing is to switch off the empty trash confirmation from finder preferences.

However it looks like someone is using a GUI kit to replace your standard windows - are any other windows/dialogue boxes affected?

This can be done with a program called Shapeshifter (www.unsanity.com/haxies/shapeshifter) which lets the user customise many GUI elements, or it could just be that the trash confirmation element has been replaced - you would have to find an original one to replace it with.

www.resexcellence.com may help, or www.macosxhints.com

Yes, it's OSX.

Completely standard as I am rarely around to use it. The Mrs uses it for the internet and some projects but doesn't fiddle with preferences as she doesn't know how.

Yes, it does just come up on the recycle bin confirmation. Bloody lovely pic but "nuts" and "BBQ" are bound to make a swift, unwanted introduction if I don't get it sorted.

Not confident this is any help but you may want to give this a try.
Hover the mouse over the trash so that you can see the trash can with the word trash above.
Then do 'Command+i' and a window should open giving you information about the trash. At the top of this window there is a graphic which normally has a small icon of the desktop. You can paste any image into this and I suspect that someone might have pasted a picture of Denise. If you can see a pic of Denise or some other lovely report back and I'll tell you how to get rid of it and return it to its former appearance.
Another good starting point would be to repair permissions.
The application Disk Utility will do this and is normally located:
Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Launch Disk Utility, highlight your hard disk on the left and select 'Repair Permissions'.

Hope this helps, Paul
