Yesterday I went to a buy an alloy wheel for my car. This alloy cost me £250 and on first impressions looked mint. I handed over the money in cash and as soon as I did the seller ran away. Fast forward to this morning when I was getting round to fitting it and the tyre was flat. I assumed it was a puncture so went to my local indie and he has advised me that the problem is the alloy. It doesn't hold air and looks like someone has used a hammer to hide the big dent that was in it. He obviously pumped it up before showing me it to mislead me.

I went wrong by meeting the seller in a car park and paying cash. Do I have any ammo to get a refund or will I just need to put it down to experience ? I'm skint and this is not what I need. I can barely afford a weeks shopping never mind buying another alloy for the car,

Thanks

Did you buy it via ebay? Have you got his address?

I think because you paid cash there's not much you can do.

How did you buy it? eBay? Classified ad?
Did you get a receipt?
Can you contact the seller?

If a cash deal with dodgy Dave in the red lion carpark, then I suspect it's a case of who has the most 'leverage' over the other, to forcibly exert their will on this situation.

Basically can you find Dave and threaten to punch his lights out, or will he flatten you before you've finished your sentence hehe

buy a steel if you need a wheel should get one for 30 quid. an alloy can be repaired, but most times not. you could sue the bloke or just chalk it up.

It was on gumtree. I'm gutted. I've just lost my job and this was not what I needed. I messaged him and he just said "sold as seen" with a laughing emoji

I suppose that's all I can do. I'm just angry with myself and feel that the clown who sold me it is a dishonest idiot.

the thing is that is the price you pay. easiest way is search his mobile in Facebook see what brings up. it is easy to get address from 192 and you could tell him you are going to sue him. i would see if an alloy repair can be done first though.

Get spare mobile phone.

Keep look out for him selling other items.

Agree to buy something else from him.

Meet him.

Kill him.*

(WTF are you doing buying £250 alloys if you can't afford your food shopping?)

* Do take legal advice before the final stage. IANAL

I would agree with this. Mark it down to experience.

I normally pay 35-50 pounds for secondhand alloys. The most I’ve paid is 90 but that really was brand new in box.

Shame you don’t drive a Volvo or you could have had one of my spares.

£250 for a single used fiesta alloy? Seems steep.
Bad luck chalk it up to experience, some people really are scum, disproportionately so on Gumtree it seems.
