Last night I was driving in to Bristol from the M4 down the M32. Not a journey I have made for years. I saw a 40mph sign, slowed to 40, but all the cars staying on the M32 started to accelerate. I thought perhaps I had seen a sign on the slip road and interpreted it incorrectly, glanced over at the satnav and sure enough the car reckoned 60mph so I accelerated back up to 60mph.

Today, I drove up the same stretch and noticed it IS now a 40mph, but the repeaters are a considerable distance apart. Damn.

Does anyone know if there are cameras going IN to Bristol city centre on the M32?

By where the new bus bridge is built?

Dont think there are cameras, mainly as 90% of the time its immpossible to get anywhere near 40MPH!!

A little bit further in to the city than that - people started overtaking me just after I had cleared the queue to come off at Fishponds (J2). So I'd say between J2 and the bridge with the red "end of motorway approaching, slow down" sign.

I had to google bus bridge, and now know what the unopened pristine junction on the M32 is for, thanks!!!

A lot of people ignore the speed limit there because there are no fixed cameras (or didn’t used to be). There are mobile units sometimes sitting on the bridge or the St Paul’s roundabout though.

It's one bit of road that no one ever seems to obey, at all. I drive to temple meads from the M4 regularly and I've never seen police, although I'm sure they are probably around.

It's a stupid limit, used to have a sign nearby saying 'Barrier incomplete. Speed reduced for your safety'. I don't see how, it's been like that for years. The road has leaving and joining traffic, sure. But it's no worse than the M4 into London, and that's 60mph. At the very least this part of the M32 should be 50mph.

Not sure if the motorway section is still 40 or whether it starts further into Bristol now.

I can confirm from experience that there are active cameras on the M32 - my recent attendance at a Speed Awareness Course is the unfortunate result of being caught by camera doing 49 in a 40.

I must be missing that bit. I don't make a habit of thundering down there, but I've certainly not been doing 40. Heard nothing, and it's been a while since I've been there.

There are temporary 40 signs just before the fish ponds junction, but they have installed average speed cAmeras where the new bus lane begins just after St. Paul’s junction and into the centre. Most of the time of day it’s impossible to get to 40 on that stretch anyway but having driven this morning there is a yellow average speed camera on the bus lane section.
