I asked for some PH buying advice on what to swap my MK6 GTI for and was told a 7R, RS, M3 etc. I went for a look at a few and soon found myself with a black 3 door M135i which I am loving so far! First mods I have done is black grills and window tints. Will be looking at a few mods when I get used to it after Xmas such as new wheels, splitter and then onto performance !

Thanks for the advice!

any tips on what will improve the car ?

Nice car, suspension and limited slip differential seem to be the best route to get more from the chassis.

First mod would be front LCAs in my experience. Best ROI from a driving experience POV. Loads of abbreviations sorry.

I would do that prior to any barryboyisation of such a nice looking car.

m4 LCA,

Birds suspension setup (ouch very expensive) or some good quality lowering springs and spacers

JB4 or custom map with or without decat. about 420hp ish

Methanol and a uprated intercooler 500hp ish (large manly bks required as getting the standard 320hp down in anything but perfect conditions is a challenge so 420hp must be near impossible and 500hp well I just cant comprehend it.

There's a good Facebook group out there for UK based cars, a guy called David Appleby or something like that seems to run it and I believe he owns The Performance Centre up Newcastle way and has tuned quite a few and is one of the go to guys. Only problem with the Facebook group from my point of view is it seems to attract the younger 'init bruv' and 'its rekt' kind of people which gets on my nerves every now and then but each to there own.

I have a 2016 M135i 5 door in white, auto, HK and a few other options. Wish I had the MPE fitted but its not a bad sounding car anyway.

Agreed Mark,

Being younger and not so knowledgeable myself (22 & 3rd car) I joined the groups but every time I asked for advice I got ridiculous answers! I have had a look at the JB4 but don't know whether it is the better option than a map. Currently just going to enjoy it how it is until at least a few months after xmas! sounds great in sport mode but will look for an exhaust eventually as well.

thanks for the advice

can't believe you really need more power?

No personal experience, but the Birds suspension gets great reviews.
  • from what i read* I'd certainly consider that money well spent on a professional mod that fixes an issue, improves the car and even retains some value as they're recognised. other mods just diminish value.

Having had an M135i for 18 months I'd say it really does not need any more power but a good suspension if you're keeping it for any period of time would be a good way to go

I have a White M135 which i have had for about 2 years, As above, i'm also in all the FB groups, you do now and then get good info, and alot of stuff comes on their for sale when people return their cars to standard ready to trade in etc,

I have a JB1 fitted to mine, which gives me around 360-365bhp to play with, i prefer this to the JB4 as it only has 2 cables to connect, no splicing, massive cable looms, programming etc that is required like the JB4 needs,

I'm looking at going for the sports Cat next as i want it to get through the MOT, and with the decat, it will throw an EML if you dont have a JB4, and it makes the inside of the car stink of fuel.

Other than that, M4 LCA's will do you nicely! Enjoy!

That would be my very last upgrade and by which time it wouldn't be needed anyway.
