Why no SAR Helicopter on Flight Radar?

We often see the SAR Helicopter based at Lee on Solent, but when its passing I can never see it on Flight Radar.

Why is that?

Does your version of FlightRadar show military aircraft?

I've seen Coastguard helicopters pop up on 360Radar and IIRC on there they're classed as military.

Maybe they have ticked the box for No publicity.

Or they are in Stealth mode?

Flight Radar filters stuff out automatically. Try this which does have military (click on Global Radar View at the top):

Its not military though, is it? Its a service subcontracted out by the MCGA to a private firm I think?

Yes sorry, I meant to say it shows military as well which FR doesn't. It also has more detail on biz jets for example such as the registration which FR seems to filter out also.

I'm not certain why they're classed as military, bit out of touch with the finer points these days.

I expect it's something to do with the fact that their duties were carried out by the RAF & Royal Navy in the past, and as such it's still perceived as a military role?

IT is a Government Agency or contracted by the Government.

Other one worth a look is https://signup.360radar.co.uk/ usually shows more than adsb exchange. Costs to sign up or you can contribute and get it for free. See below only got military showing on the filter.

All SAR aircraft can be viewed on vessel finder or marine traffic using their AIS. Bristow have asked flightradar to hide some aircraft but also lee has a AW189 training aircraft so you’ll see quite a bit of traffic that may or not be a SAR declares asset.

I was just getting my morning coffee in the office when I heard a helicopter (would using chopper land me in the cringe thread?).

Check marine traffic, looks like its landed at Newport hospital, about 1/4 mile from here.

The majority of pre-arranged transfers took place between the Isle of Wight and Southampton or Portsmouth.”

Indeed a friend of mine in Yarmouth had an aortic aneurysm, helicoptered to Southampton General and survived!
