George Soros gives $18bn to his charitable foundation.
Discussion
That’s a lot of money - all in the aid of ‘spreading democracy’.
The financier George Soros has transferred about $18bn (£13.7bn) to his human rights foundation, bringing his lifetime giving to $32bn and making the foundation one of the world’s largest. The donation makes Soros’s Open Society Foundations the third largest charitable foundation in the world, behind the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and the Wellcome Trust.

Open Society works globally to “build vibrant and tolerant democracies” and has given away nearly $14bn since it was founded in 1979.

The campaign against him in Hungary had some pretty blatant and nasty anti-Semitic undertones. We then had a bizarre situation where Israel went on to defend Hungary's anti-Semitic portrayal of Soros in those posters that the government in Hungary put up.https://www.thenation.com/article/soros-slander-re...

They tend to do this in their old age, with the money they know they can't spend before they are dead.
Worrying about their 'legacy'.
Who are "they"? How many of 'them' do you personally know to state "they" are "worrying about their 'legacy'"?Worrying about their 'legacy'.
Note the article says since 1979. Not bad having an "old age" that has lasted 38 years so far!

Soros is said to have 23 billion. He has given away 32 billion. What a f
king chiselling skinflint, eh?
He hasn't given away to existing charities though. He has put it into his own fund and with that comes power in itself.
king chiselling skinflint, eh?For example a quick read up on him now reveals he is both big on increasing democracy throughout the world, whilst making good money from the voting machines being sold to do this (financial links with Smartmatic)

Think I should bow out now though, as my knowledge is limited to my cynical instincts from working in this area.

OK, he's given away 32 billion and kept 5 billion.
He has 'given' as in just moved into another account whilst maintaining full control, 18 billion whilst having 1 foot in the grave.Previous to that he gave away much smaller amounts, not distributed as your comment implies.
Anyway, as said, I am bowing out.
Give him a knighthood!

The foundation is not "his" fund. It's distinct from his business activities. If you really think that Soros supports democracy just so that he can sell voting machines, your cynicism is deep even by the lamentable standards of NPE.For example a quick read up on him now reveals he is both big on increasing democracy throughout the world, whilst making good money from the voting machines being sold to do this (financial links with Smartmatic)

It is his fund, it is a fund he controls, and that "funds" project he wants it to fund.Fund does not just relate to a Hedge Fund...
Anyway leave you to it, Im sure you are right and he is not a controversial figure.
