For 40 Million Euros I would be staying too. he wont get another drive in F1 and will struggle to be paid elsewhere anywhere near that amount. A badly advised and managed driver is Alonso.

Hardly - he is a double world champion and probably the richest driver on the grid. A position many would like to be in.

He could have got more WDCs and therefore more money, although not that much.

When off the track he seems to react without thought at times.

Interesting step given all of his comments in the press over the last year. Surely he knew the game was up a while ago, when it was obvious no seats at race winning teams would be available next year? It feels as though he has just had to admit defeat now and sign for another year, even if it is for silly money.

Christ.

Obviously I’ll never know what it would be like to be offered such money but I would like to think if I had as much as he did already, I would have a bit more pride in my work and do LITERALLY ANYTHING to get out of that piece of st McLaren.

Mental money I’m sure but he definitely doesn’t need it. I bet he would trade it for a shot at the championship. I guess he can’t get a drive anywhere else so may as well stay?!

Just hope the McLaren/Renault partnership can give Alonso a car able to fight for wins.

It has been too long not seeing Alonso in a front running car.

I would hope that they do the indy 500 thing again too...although without honda, is that likely?

I think the statement applies to more recent years. Flavio Briatore is his manager (or certainly was).

Great piece. Actually I don’t think he’s receiving any more money than he did this season.

When asked about the prospects of Alonso joining the team for Daytona, United Autosports co-owner and McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown didn’t rule out the possibility, although said his focus is currently on securing Alonso’s return to McLaren for next year.

...

“He wants to do Le Mans. Indy’s not possible next year. We’ll focus on getting the F1 done and we’ll see if there’s any other additional events that he has a desire to do and we have a desire to do.”
Toyota are keen on giving Alonso a car for Le Mans: https://www.autosport.com/wec/news/131856/toyota-o... I suspect it'll happen if the McLaren is nowhere in the championship again, especially as it looks like Le Mans doesn't conflict with a F1 GP next.

End of 2018 is going to be very interesting as so many drivers' contracts are up, but I still can't see Red Bull, Ferrari or Merc interested in Alonso so he will be limited to McLaren and possibly Renault if he wants a seat at a top team.

I bet he'd take a large cut in salary to get in a Merc/Ferrari now though.
