Good afternoon all,
I currently drive a 2008 Lexus RX400h on 82,000 miles that in my ownership has been fault free, it's an LE-X so has all the gubbins and I like it but...I've always hankered after a Range Rover.

There's an '07 TD V8 Vogue up for sale nearby for £10k on 107,000 miles. Am I mad to consider swapping the reliable Lexus for the much prettier Vogue? I know sensibly that sticking with what I've got makes the most sense but...it's a Range Rover! smile

So, 10 year old, 10k, TDV8 Rangie? Would you or wouldn't you?

They're great cars, but please please put 1K a year aside for broken stuff. At that age you'll probably need to do the radiator, some suspension bushes or track rod ends, coolant expansion tank - and change the turbo hoses since they'll die soon. None is expensive, and all easy DIY jobs, but do expect it.

Avoid.

Just buy a Hilux if you want that 4x4 experience and continue to enjoy stuff that doesn't break down.

completely bonkers.

RR look nice, but thats where it stops.

I have a Lexus, so if you buy the RR, I can buy your RX400h

I have one and I have put 30,000 miles on the clock to get to 138,000.

No serious problems at all. Cheap motoring if anything.

I did do a transmission flush full service when I bought it and I have had it remapped - not for more power but to digitally delete the EGR valves. Runs like a watch and goes like a train. Use it every day for school runs and commutes and towing, I’ve towed four tons down the motorway with its no bother.

Scare stories are silly. All parts are cheap and loads of specialists out there can fix things.

They are as cheap as chips to buy for what they are.

Honeywell, what year is your and how long have you had it?

My boss had RRs from new for about the last 15 years doing 50K/year and all of them were needing serious amounts spent on them by 100K when he'd get a new one.

He last changed to a Toyota Landcruiser over 3 years ago, it now has 170K on it and has had nothing but routine services.

He swers he will never touch a RR again.

I was looking to buy a range rover of that age so went to see Jules at my local garage to ask for real advice about them. He said "some of my best customers have them, buy something else" so I bought a lexus rx400h instead.

Utterly insane.

I have 2 (albeit RRS), my business partner uses the '07 3.6 TDV8 and it's just got back from having the body off to fix seized turbo, drivers door not locking, intermittent cut out on hard acceleration, broken parking sensor and a few other bits and pieces.

Mine (10 plate) needs new EGR valves and has had the alternator pack in, lower arms changed and a few other bits in 6 months.

I really enjoy the car but I'm pretty sure I should have bought an X5.

Isn't an L322 RR an X5 underneath?

my garage warned me that jags and RRs were the most expensive to keep on the road...
I am now on my 5th RR - still cheaper to own and run than a new leased car, and a lot more fun... and mymechanic has several nice holidays each year!

Thanks guys, I did go to view it and it was nice but didn’t bother with a test drive as there was a bit of blistering around the rear arches which would have needed sorting pretty soon.

For the first time ever I’m pretty sure I’m going to go with my head rather than my heart and stick with the RX.

I still can’t get the niggling feeling that I’m missing out out of my head though banghead

It was this one if anyone is interested - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Oh well,

Sense prevails.

I have the IS 250.

I would like the 400h to replace it.

Experience the RR ownership experience by keeping your own car and having your wife randomly take £1,000 out of your bank account and flushing it down the toilet.

My Father in Law would love a FFRR. Being a sensible sort of chap he drives a Landcruiser instead.

Well, as ever, the car itch needed to be scratched. I sought out a better maintained 2008 Vogue TDV8. Mechanically looked after although the paint needs work. The dealer sorted the leather before I picked it up. 110k and £12k, fsh, Buckingham Blue with Parchment leather and Burr wood.

Hopefully I won't live to regret it but right now, what a car, it's beautiful.
