Steam Link box-anyone got one?
Discussion
And if so are they any good, especially in a house with pretty crappy WiFi?
I ask as the box is on sale till tomorrow for 80p! Although you are also stuck with a JRPG thing called ICEY so the total cost is £7, still not too bad
I think it would be nice to play PCars 2 & other stuff on a big screen, but not at 5fps

I'd be pessimistic about getting games that require precision and timing to stream well over poor WiFi, a friend has one and said it's quite sensitive to connection speed/quality. Is you house wiring compatible with LAN over powerline though?
I was very tempted a couple of months ago when the link+controller bundle was reduced to £25 but in the end shipping to the UK pushed it back to £40

I picked up the offer that was on with the Icey game yesterday. It was just under £15 with the shipping. Is the steam link box itself WiFi or does it need a network cable to connect?
TBH I got it because at that price it was rude not to, it will be handy to link the back room screen to the PC but if I need power line adapters to do that, fair enough.

I'vve got one and the controller. It is wifi, but I'd recommend a wire connection. It will scan your wifi and recommend if you should use a wired connection or not. I'm not a fan of the controller, but it is very versatile. I use an old X-Box style USB controller instead, and I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse for it. Its all fairly simple and easy to use.
Hmm I might try this, I currently have to carry my desktop (which is huge) to the cinema room downstairs if I'm playing PC games with mates. I'd been looking at keyboard/mouse/vga extenders but this looks like a much better solution. I have LAN points available, and already have 2 XBOX style PC controllers. Will look for a good deal, prices on ebay are all over the place.
It's currently £11.99 on Steam (probably plus shipping) http://store.steampowered.com/app/353380/Steam_Lin...

Mine arrived yesterday. I'll set it up over WiFi to the screen in the back room for now, but what's the best way to get the sound over from the PC to the back room?TBH I got it because at that price it was rude not to, it will be handy to link the back room screen to the PC but if I need power line adapters to do that, fair enough.
My PC is in the front room, connected to the TV. In the back room, I have a Dell 24" screen that I connect the macbook to when I want to sit down and have a big screen for office type stuff.
A. Bluetooth speaker or Echo in the back room connected to the PC's Bluetooth?
B. A HDMI splitter to get a separate audio cable?

C. Some other way?
I bought a steam link and controller in the sale as it was ridiculously cheap.
The idea was to play all of out half life mods we have on my Mac.
Got it setup today and it seems to work ok,
The sound works fine when it’s just on the tv and controller.
But when we run the game we loose sound.
Also we don’t seem to have cursor mouse control from the haptic controller.
Am I missing some controller set up?
The games we have tried to play so far are all half life games we already play on the Mac.
Any ideas or tips please ?
Thanks in advance.
