Glasgow Apollo - was there a better venue?
Discussion
I was listening to a radio documentary glorifying the Barrowland Ballroom last month and it got me thinking about the joys of the Apollo. Was anyone else a regular gig goer back in the early 80s?
I remember Iron Maiden, Saxon, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Hawkwind (still listen to them), Manowar (loudest band I've ever heard by a mile), Judas Priest, Scorpions (caught Rudolf Schenker's plectrum) and the last proper rock band to play there, Uriah Heep.
It stunk, the security staff were aggressive, the balcony used to look like it would collapse when the music started - great memories.
Was there anywhere more atmospheric?
