A3 2.0 TDI water loss and confusing bubbles
Discussion
Yet another A3 water issue but this has a twist.
Bubbles in expansion tank and water loss but not normal head Gasket symptoms. Engine runs too sweet and has no signs of water in cylinders or in the oil.
Suspected EGR cooler so bypassed that by joining the water pipes together, same problem.
What I did find by mistake/accident is that If I disconect the vacuum reservoir, no bubbles and could rev the engine with not a ripple in the expansion tank. Put my thumb over the vacuum tube and rev it, mount vasuvius erupts.
Managed to go one further and found that when the vacuum is connected, but the tube to the what looks like the turbo waste gate is blocked off, no bubbles.
I am pulling my hair out.
Any ideas on where to look next?

my wife had a weird problem with her audi a3 2.0 2004 170,000 miles and would only leak water if doing short runs, if she did long runs it did leak water, if this is a similar model let me know.
It wasn't a head gasket , or the water expansion tank, it was a £20 part that needed replacing at the top right hand side of the engine bay that required an audi specialist to find the leak/diagnose.
