Passenger Seat Etiquette
Discussion
You know the situation...
5 people walking towards a car, each one too polite to run for the front passenger seat.
I for one hate sitting in the back
I was pondering this today and I think there is are certain things to consider when deciding who sits in the jump seat
1) Hierarchy Factor - the boss sits up front.
2) Man Factor - the man sits upfront.
3) Polite Factor - female passenger sits up front
4) Fat Factor - the lardy one sits up front, on the basis he/she wont fit in the back.
5) Petrolhead Factor - the one deamed to be the "enthusiast" sits up front.
Any factors I am missing?!
Based on my findings I aim to get promoted, become a transexual, get fat[ter] and a car enthusiast

You forgot the 'shotgun' approach. The first one to shout "shotgun" when outside the pub/club/etc on the way to the car gets the seat
Shouting whilst still in the pub/etc demotes you to the rear seat.
There is also the "I'm 6'2" and 16 stone" factor - I rarely have to sit in the back.
Strangly with the kids we have to have a rota system as to whose week it is in the front and who is the alternate, not to mention the barttering that goes on if it isn't someone's week but we are dropping them off with friends etc
Beaten to it you gits!

I read the title of this thread and wondered idly whether it was about when it's acceptable to release a fart when you have a passenger, and perhaps rules on the preferred course of action once the deed is done - ie windows or fan? your window or passenger? sunroof too? or perhaps a can of anti pong in the glove box just in case? it's a minefield of rules!

'Man Factor'![]()
Seeing as most of you are back seat drivers, I'd respectfully suggest that you should already know your place, ie, the rear seat(s)!
We can be back seat drivers in the front too!
It means we can pull the handbrake up to save the car from collision when required

...its not discreet cough, cover the sound, then turn the fan up to "4" in the hope you have disguised the aformentioned "air biscuit"

and also so we can encourage a little more oversteer when there'd not enough throttle/left foot braking applied

We go by the shotgun rule, or who bought the last round. However, if I am driving, I let my mates take it in turn, so if you had shotgun first time, you cant have it again till everyone else has had a go on that excursion. My mates buy it
Other factors can also come in, such as who is the tallest, who paid petrol money, whos the most drunk(sits in the back, not behind me) etc

Tallest always gets first refusal on the front seat.
My mum has always opted to go in the back. She fits perfectly in the Corrado given her height (God only knows, no really. Very small shall we say.) Had a man - ooerr! - in the back last Friday night and he had to lie down to get in. He did manage to tuck his knees under his chin eventually
My female passenger up front could exercise the woman, height and age rule over him.
When I read this title, I thought it was about passenger manners. I had a friend once who proceeded to tuck into a chocolate bar when passengering in my newly valeted Volvo. (My previous car had chocolate ingrained in the seat from years of her missing her mouth.) She wasn't best pleased when I told her not to. She protested, but when I told her to
off she thought better of it
