Hello all
Long-time lurker here- but bear with me!
I have been taking a car allowance for the last few years, and coming to the end of a zero deposit PCP on a 64 plate 520D M-Sport after 75k miles.
Circumstances have changed slightly; annual mileage down (a bit...) to £20k; but still have wife, child & big dog to lug around- plus 4wd would be handy. The wife fancies an SUV- and whilst they are nice places to be, I am not a huge fan of the way they go around corners. So- thinking of a possible compromise...
EITHER:
Audi A6 Allroad Quattro Sport 272bhp.
6 cylinder diesel (whilst 6 cylinder cars are still attainable); supreme comfort and great build. £55k+ new.
£36k at 9months & 4k miles with great finance offers (6.9% APR; £1.5k contribution & 2x free services).
My one reservation is that the A6 is due to be replaced next year....
OR:
Volvo V90 Cross Country D5
4 cylinder 235bhp; relatively rare, supreme comfort and, (dare I say it).... actually pretty cool!
£36k at 9 months & 9k miles with finance at 4.9% APR
£££:
Whilst not wishing to pick up on the much vaunted debate lease v PCP v Loan v Cash; I will be taking PCP with zero deposit and have both dealers down to the same monthly rate that comes in c. £15/month more than my 520D. This works for me- as I simply see it as an overhead; and I am confident that I have negotiated hard enough to get the best possible deal.
The Audi has 2 free services- that Volvo cannot match (although they would give it first service before I collect). However, I reckon the (likely) better MPG of the Volvo will offset much of the servicing cost,
So... any thoughts, experience or alternatives much appreciated!

Thanks all for suggestions...
Skoda- looks interesting and will try to have a look / try.
Mondeo- good looking car; and considerable saving, plus by all accounts it drives well. However, the interior just doesn't feel remotely 'special' to me; and I am likely to be spending a fair amount of time inside it...
Having said that, I have given thought to a mazda 6- great looking car and by all accounts a fairly decent drive. £18k should get a nicely specced Sport Nav- though not AWD.
Also now considering slight downsizing and going for 330/5D Touring X-drive...
Having said all that- I took another look at the Volvo today and really really like it.... Still trying to get my head around the fact that I am attracted to a Volvo (I'm 'only' 42 FFS!)

£590/m; 20k pa, 48 months
Thanks, you know you can buy new for that a month. Nothing down.Orange Wheels has between 9k (272) and 11k (Bi TDI 320) off.
If you jump on the Audi Finance Calculator, you see £7k contribution. Make the deposit the remaining discount (£2/4k say) and the monthlies on a 20k 48 month are roughly the same (high 500 / low 600)
Brand new, your choice of paint, full 3 year warranty (option to extend to 4 years of risk free motoring) that fresh new car smell and a lower interest rate....
Thoughts?

We have the 4wd Skoda Superb and do about 20k p.a....can't recommend it highly enough...Mrs loves driving too.
eta we have previously had the Audi Allroad and the Volvo XC and overall the Skoda just about wins for us because of the space....having 3 larger adult sons and 2 dogs.

No one has asked this yet but what’s the max age a car can be run at in your cash4car opt out?
The 520d estate at 75k is barely run in why not run this for a few more years and bank the savings.
Edit to add I’d wager if you took out a loan with the same monthlies as you pay currently it will be owned outright in 3years time max. This could then be sold given to the wife whatever and then get the next one. The 520d estate at 75k is barely run in why not run this for a few more years and bank the savings.
I’ve 92k in my F10 I keep mine in very good condition wanting for nothing it literally looks like a 15-20k car. I’m at the same point basically time to change it OR keep on running it until it reaches a point it’s unreliable /uneconomical to service.
Also looking for an estate, currently in a 57 plate Honda Accord Cdti EX. Its done circa 45k in 5 years (was purchased at the time as the only Honda Estate with emissions less that 160g/km). Anyway I have changed jobs since then and the kids are suitable trained now where they have stopped wrecking the car every trip.
Budget is between £10-20k, some cash down and will do either PCP or HP with a view to purchase car at the end of the PCP.
I have been holding out for a very last registered Honda Accord Tourer EX Derv, and one has come up, however, I think a 2014 car with 28k miles on it is a tad expensive at £14k. Following this tread I have had a nose around Mazda 6 estates also 2014/15 cars at £14-16k, the 175bhp Sport Nav looks great spec but the reviews have it as a bit crashy on 19 inch wheels.
Anyone driven on for any distance? At the moment I think its between these two as I believe both will be more reliable than the European offerings.
I assume the new C-Class from 2012 are pretty reliable? There is a petrol C350 for sale at £16k that looks good but expensive for the age. What about the diesel versions of the C and E is it better sticking to the 220 versions of get 320?
I am looking ultimately for refinement and reliability. Would I need a big Bork fund for the Merc?

There is a reason why the world over taxi drivers run Mercs. It is durabilityBudget is between £10-20k, some cash down and will do either PCP or HP with a view to purchase car at the end of the PCP.
