I’ve been sitting 15 foot from the car the entire time. Suddenly a parking officer appears, takes a photo and walks off so I walk over to ask if there’s a problem. It turns out my parking ticket was flipped over. He’s apparently obseved the car for 4 minutes. Ticket already issued. Nothing he can do.

Can anyone guide me through appealing this?

You can try and appeal and see if they'll wipe it in good faith. Unlikely though as I'm sure the parking terms state ticket must be clearly visible.

But parking was paid for, so definitely worth an appeal. www.pepipoo.com if you need proper advice.

Tickets are sometimes issued in error. Parking wardens (or whatever they're called) claim to be unable to cancel a ticket once it has been issued. Does anyone know why this is? It would save a lot of heartache and expense if they could just be reversed on the spot.

No. Follow the appeal process on the ticket. Any discount offered will be frozen until the appeal is resolved.

The ticket was clearly visible, it depends on the wording.

The officer should have let him off as soon as he saw the OP had a ticket.

The OP can appeal and will probably win.

It's just a complete waste of scarce Council funds.

If you were only fifteen f et away, why didn't you speak to her before she wrote the ticket out?

Parking Warden is male.
Ticket already issued.

Yup male parking attendant, took a photo and immediately started walking off down the road away from my car. I got up and walked to him, and asked him whether there was a problem with my car. He didn't answer so I walked over to my car and saw the ticket had blown over (one of the kids had got something from the car about 10 minutes before so I guess that's when it happened). I turned the ticket over and he approached and handed me the ticket. I pointed out the valid ticket. He told me there's nothing he can do as it's already in the system. He showed me the photo he'd taken of the ticket face down and pointed to his body camera, saying this is all on camera. I asked him what I should do, do I need to pay then? He said yes. I need to pay and then follow instructions to appeal.

Lesson learned to stick the thing onto the windscreen I guess. Ha, I had been getting all nostalgic about London, now I remember why living in the arse end of nowhere is a really great thing.

Appeal first, the follow the appeal appeal process biggrin

Don't forget to mention the fact that the PA strode up to the car, whipped his magic box out and scarpered. Four minutes my bottom...

Not really, If every knew the councils wouldn't pursue an over turned ticket, no one would pay for parking and just leave an old ticket overturned.

I would guess the reason they are not allowed to reverse it on the spot is it could lead them open to intimidation and violence if they refused, whereas if you go through the "system" and have a valid fair complaint they usually let you off.

Also to be fair to the traffic wardens they can't read it if it's upside down, it could be one from the day before.

I'm no fan of traffic wardens btw, but if they didn't exist people would be blocking narrow streets while they "nipped in the shop for a packet of fags"......

That's not what he's talking about though is it? He's spoken to the traffic warden just after he's looked at it and explained to him. All it would have taken was the traffic warden to walk over and confirm this by looking at the time the ticket was issued. So not letting it go further instead of the warden speaking to someone to get it reversed it now has to go to appeal.

If the OP hadn't have been there and the traffic warden had issued a ticket then fair enough as the traffic warden doesn't know otherwise

Well I've put in an appeal online, but haven't had any acknowledgement by email so might submit another one tomorrow if I haven't heard anything.

If I try to view the evidence, it says there's a processing error.

Forgot to mention, I'd gone for coffee with my sister - the bill for coffee was £30 even before the parking ticket, at a little boutique café and the staff couldn't have cared less about the ticket I'd got whilst parked just at their door.

Whenever I visit family in London I start thinking, wouldn't it be lovely if I still lived here. Nope, nope, just nope.

The bot is still being fine-tuned.

Why would you think they would be even remotely bothered? Nothing to do with them whatsoever.

You didn't properly display the ticket (which is what you're supposed to do - not just 'buy one') but might be worth appealing it anyway.

I know, but considering I was a customer sitting in their shop window whilst it happened, had been chatting to them before, then came back in after to finish up and get the bill, I was a bit surprised to get blanked. They couldn’t even manage any acknowledgement let alone an “oh dear”. I am a fairly mild mannered middle aged lady so wasn’t ranting and raving or anything lol. I live in the regions and have got used to a far more human approach to customer service.

As to appeal I’ll just have to see what they say.
