Hi, Ive just read that 993 article and it seems just the thing Im after. I need back seats which is why the 964Rs had to go. My question is that other than the price- which seems good to me, is it really going to offer near RS performance? I dont mean to upset any 993 owners but the standard cars realy do not impress me. I know I could go and drive it and answer the question myself but not possible at the moment due to not actually being in the UK.
I recognise the name of the chap who wrote it from the Porsche mags so I guess he knows what he is on about, but would be interested in your opinions.

Bearing in mind the weather today my 993 C4S has been fantastic. Whether you go for a 2wd or 4wd 993 i think you're buying a car you truly can use every day.
If you've come from a 964 RS then i guess you'll have to "reset" your expectations but i love my heated seats, sunroof, air con, etc and with weather like ours the 993 is a comfortable way to go splashing through the standing water...

The performance is more than "adequate" - certainly in straight line acceleration, top speed, and cornering ability it's probably pretty close to your old 964 though i guess the feedback you had with the RS is slightly lacking.

I diasgree to some extent and Domster certainly will.

My 993 isn't far off that spec, in fact with some genuine RS bodykit parts some might argue 'as good' but it still isn't a patch on Dom's for raw 'RS-ness'. Yes there are benefits (certainly in this weather) but it will never handle like an RS with the extra weight.

You need to weigh up just how much you're prepared to sacrifice?

That's why i said a 993 is probably as CAPABLE as a 964RS though it doesn't have the feel (and therefore the fun factor) that the RS has.
Horses for courses.

Sorry if i didn't make myself clear the first time.

Yeah, I kind of know what you're saying Pete, but the lack of weight and severly uprated bits on the RSs really make a discernable difference - an RS is more *capable* and has more feel, as far as I can tell having driven both a 993 C2 and a 964 RS back to back.

Maybe a Ruf'd up 993 would come close (or even exceed an RS), particularly in terms of grip and top end speed, but the deliciously delicate handling is something that comes through a lack of weight. I imagine it is possible to convert a 993 C2 to an RS spec, but it would be very expensive to do.

Interestingly, I worked out that by ditching my space saver, swapping a few bits for kevlar replacements, and ditching other things, I could get the weight of my car down by another 65 kgs! Now that would be something, but I would lose what little comfort (leather seats, stereo) I already have. Maybe you can go too far

It isn't a RUF car, it is merely a 993 that has had a few RUF bits strapped to it. RUF, as well as being 'manufacturers' are also vehicle tuners, so you can have as little or as much RUFing as you want. Hence not all variations being on the website, unlike their showcase cars like BTR, CTR etc.

The 993 'RUF' was quite a unique s/h example, and should be seen as a mildly tweeked 993, not a fully blown RUF. I mean 290bhp, come on... that's about 200 down on one of their turbo models
