AA bysmal service from insurer (I am fuming)
Discussion
Called up my insurer for a renewal as I had not received it through.
They quoted £523.00
I got a quote on the internet £477.00 but they would not match it. They said renew on line.
I did but the system did not work so I phone up the internet helpline £477.27. I disclosed a windscreen claim and a no fault claim on the phone re my TVR policy. (I claimed directly from the third parties insurance). They say they'll be no change to the premium.
Fine I thought, I also ask about No claims cert being it was going from one department to another. They said they didn't know and to wait for policy docs.
I get these through requesting no claims cert, which is not needed and I query why protection on NCB hasn't been added. They say they'll add it and see if there is an extra charge. The £477.27 on the internet included NCB protection. They said they'll call me at 9 this morning. I did another qoute and it came out at the same. 9.15 no call so I speak to a manger, he said he can't help as this call centre is in Newcastle and I had been talking the previous night to Cardiff. I cannot get through to them because the calls route automatically, but he'd try and get someone to call in the next 10 mins. No one called. I ring back tonight and they have told me that I'd have to pay the full £523.00. I protest that the quote on the internet included NCB protection. They hadn't told me it had been removed. They said it had been removed because of a no fault claim on the TVR policy!!! I said this was b
ks as it was not my fault and on another policy and I didn't even claim through my policy. They go away and come back and say Well the customer adviser didn't tell you but you didn't ask about it, the internet policy should be now £550, she discounted it but did not mention removal of protected NCB.
The supervisor I was speaking to said well if you had a claim in the last year it would have been void as you had not notified us of the accident, and that my original renewal was now wrong and I'd have to pay £600!! WTF. I have never heard anything like it.
I have now cancelled my policy The ** team
Is this right that insurers will load you another £100.00 and not give you protected NCB because of a no fault claim on another policy which you had not claimed on.

some insurers don't see claims other than a claim. i.e MMA Master Motorist policy doesn't allow for any claims or convictions regardless of blame within the last 5 years. No loading of premium they just don't quote.
It does amaze me that people pay peanuts for covering their P & J and then complain when it goes tits up, it's cheap for a reason. If you want service get a Chubb policy (we start selling them soon). They don't count fire or theft claims against you, and the driving other cars is comp.

Seems totally unfair. Someone wallops you. then you have to pay £100 + more on your policy.
What infuriates me is that they did not advise me that protection would be taken off. I have also been bounced pillar to post via 2 call centres.
I wouldn't mind, this wasn't a small company. I phoned up another insurer and they said I should not be loaded because of that.

Footman James, virtually no miles policy, disconnect speedo, Bob's your uncle.
Insurance people are pirates so play them at their own game. I finally realised this when my 240000 mile pug 106 D on it's last legs to get me to work quoted me about £360 for TPFaT. For
s sake, Footman James quoted me £113 for the mini (unlimited milage) and it is one of the most dangerous cars on the road. I don't know where they get their logic from.
The revolution has started as far as I am concerned. Con, beg, steal, be dishonest but always have your piece of A4 paper to show the cops when you get a producer.

I don't give plaudits lightly but speaking from experience, I highly reccommend Direct Line.
I've had cause to deal with them (on incidents rather than renewals) on three occassions over the past couple of years (none of which were my fault!!) Each time, they couldn't have been better.
On one occassion, my lad managed to put through a passenger window in the hire car they supplied. This was on Easter Sunday last year. A call was put in and within 2 hours, a new one had been delivered.
I don't even bother shopping around anymore!
I'm sure others will have opposite experiences to me but as I say, I only speak from experience.

The insurance industry is getting out of hand and needs to be reigned in before it spirals out of control completely. I know there are regulatory bodies but these are not doing their job and stricter guidelines need to be imposed. It's the honest law abiding citizen that gets shafted every time. For christs sake you can't load a policy for a non fault accident!

Costs peanuts to repair and generally doesn't cause too much damage to anything else in a smash, therefore low risk to them and low price to you.
Reagrding the original post, yes it sucks.
However, you keep talking about "no fault claims". Either these are no-fault accidents where you didn't need to make a claim on your insurance (no fault accident) or they are a claim that you made and full recovery was made from the other party.
Either way, its an accident you were involved in and insurance companies load your policy as a result. The fact that the policy (-ies?) in question were nothing to do with the car you're currently trying to insure is also irrelevant - the insurer is assessing the risk to them of insuring you and (because they're gits) they choose to look on any accident you were involved in as increasing their risk.
Fair it isn't. Normal practice it is.
Car insurance = state sponsored theft.

Not a hijack really but - while we're on the subject - how come speeding convictions seem to stay on your insurance record forever even though they only last 3 years?
Another question (sorry but you got me going) - when I insured the Jag with Elephant the details wrongly said it had no alarm or immobiliser. When I told them that it DID have these, and asked what the reduction in premium would be as a result, they said there was none.
Yet if I'd started off by saying the car had no alarm or immobiliser, I bet they'd have loaded the premium... what do you think?

I should have made it clearer. It was a no fault accident in that case. I didn't claim on any of my policies and decided to claim direct off the other persons policy.
The company rang my home again today, but wouldn't leave a message. They said if I called back everyone there would know about it. I come home specially at lunchtime to call them and guess what? They couldn't find any notes as to what they had called about earlier. After doing very thorough search they found what it was about. The insurance company/underwriters that the ** go through had heard about the accident and wanted details of it. The ** had then contacted me to ask about the accident. I had to repeat the whole scenario to the adviser again. I had told about 5 people of this already!!
I did ask about not claiming on any of my policies and should it affect it. He didn't really know. He left a message later this afternoon to say they contacted the underwriters and that it didn't matter now I had gone elsewhere, but for future reference to report all accidents straight away.
I cannot believe how they could refuse to give protected no claims. Churchill wanted £1039 and Elephant wanted £473 protected. There is just no logic to how these companies get their prices.

Each insurer works out their premiums based on a certain profile of customer. The further away from their "ideal" profile you are, the worse the prices get.
For reference, Churchill are usually only any good for the much older driver. In fact, I have 2 good friends who work for Churchill and obviously qualify for staff discounts, but they both go elsewhere as its still not competitive!
