I recently came across a 7ft wide boat trailer with a 4ft wide light board. Surely that can't be right. I'd have expected the correct board width to be 7ft. Is there a correct width or a place where I can find the legislation? I've looked on the net but most sources seem to stipulating the lighting requirements. thanks.

Try this :-

I searched for "width of trailer light board".

It looks like the light board itself is OK but the trailer needs :-
at least one red fog lamp.
White front reflectors.
White front markers/lights.

MDMA .

Used to be that the indicators were a max of 400mm in from the end of the trailer, with a 400mm minimun gap between. 4ft board on a 7ft trailer probably just works/fits.

Thanks. That's the sort of stuff I was finding. I would have expected there to be a requirement to have reflectors at the outer corners of the trailer.

Not usually observed by agricultural trailers or farmers.

Or by people who have bike racks on the back of their car and also have a trailer board.(Which is unusual in itself, given that most just block out their rear lights with their bikes and don't give a toss about what drivers behind can or cannot see)
