Just did my first run through of a preplogic practise exam for 70-315 : web applications etc. Went through without any prep work, not re reading questions or checking answers.

50.9% in 41 mins I suck

It reckons 95% counts as 'competent'.

Tune in next week for news of my progress

Nah, 95% counts as having a very good memory (and knowing the MS answers).

My (admittedly sad) claim to fame is getting 100% in a MCP exam....

FWIW, I've never paid the slightest attention to manufacturers "qualifications" when recruiting people. Sadly, I seem to be in a very small minority.

Are you certified yourself (to a current certification)?

I believe that of late, the certifications (Cisco, MS, Checkpoint and to a less degree Citrix) have become more valuable as the vendors have changed the exam formats are focused more on problem solving using knowledge rather than reciting answers to common questions.

Take a CCNP or Windows 2003 design exam and you'll see that I mean.

It also shows that a candidate has taken the time (and usually a lot of their own time) to study for a qualification. If someone wrote off my effort to become more knowledgeable in my chosen field then I wouldn't want to work for them anyway....

I've interviewed a lot of people recently and the older paper MCSE's seem to be struggling to keep their certifications up to date because of the recent changes....
