VW 2.0 tsi engine query
Discussion
Firstly apologies for not being very mechanically minded.
I’ve just ordered an Arteon 2.0 petrol 190 dsg for the wife.
One of the alternatives we looked at was an Alfa Guilia. The only difference engine wise between a 200hp “super” and the 280 hip “veloce” was the engine map. Internals, turbo, ancillaries the lot all identical (well, at least according to the salesman!) who was implying I could turn a super engine to a veloce for a few hundred quid.
This seems to be bourne out in an article in Auto Italia.
I heard something similar many years ago where their was no difference between a Mini One and a Cooper other than the map preventing full power in the One.
That got me thinking.
Is that a similar situation for this engine?
Should I be inclined to do so, what are the options for increasing the BHP?
I understand there are probably loads of aftermarket options, I was interested in knowing just what range of BHP the manufacturers across the VAG group achieve with just an engine map.

remap it, and lose your warranty. big trade off. I’ve just ordered an Arteon 2.0 petrol 190 dsg for the wife.

The 2.0 TSI EA888 pumps out 230ps in the octavia, 280ps in the superb and 300 or so in the cupra/r cars.
I get the bit about voiding the warranty so I probably wouldn’t do it, but freeing up 50% more BHP for a few lines of code seems very tempting. Wonder why they’ve pegged it back so far in this car? I realise they need to differentiate between the top of the range one or no one would buy that if the only advantage was the 4x4.
But It’s a big old thing and 20/30 extra ponies wouldn’t impinge on the range topper too much.

That maybe so, but it's not just a case of the map that needs to changing to get an Octy to Cupra figures.OP if you wanted to map it, you could expect 230 ish, but the difference in torque would be more noticeable than the bhp figure.
Yup, definitely different turbo, possibly a different intercooler too, can't remember off the top of my head.
The max you can push the ea888 220/230bhp engine to is just north of 300bhp, and that's a bit risky ... And too much for the manual box / clutch. Mines running a custom map at 288bhp/467nm through the DSG box, up from 230bhp (was actually running 242bhp).
Thankfully it had a LSD as standard.
The Golf / Cupra / Superb 280 will happily go to circa 350bhp with just a map.
