Speed Six & Oil level
Discussion
Picked up my beautiful Tamora
a couple of weeks ago and have been dutifully checking the oil level following the handbook instructions after each drive. As a newby to the Speed Six I don't quite understand why it must only be checked when the engine's fully warmed up.
Also, I added some oil yesterday but had no real idea of how much to put in to begin with. I decanted some into a plastic container and using a funnel poured it in. I did this a couple of times and the oil level moved up from just above min to 3/4 of the way to max (probably added about 1/2 a litre). Does that sound about right?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Hiya
I don't think it really matters if you 'overfill' the dry sump, as the pump will only take what it needs without effecting the engine, the worst that can happen is just oil wastage.
It is a pain checking the oil level, if cold, it normally doesn't even register on the dipstick, but checking when hot should show the proper level on the dipstick. I check mine as soon as I've switched off the engine, open the bonnet, throw towels aroung the engine so I don't get burnt!, and check the level, never seem to get the same reading twice, so I just slightly overfill, just to be sure.

(Great colour, by the way!!

Hmm, mine registers on the dipstick when checked hot or cold. Different levels whether just switched off or not of course. targarama said:

Same with me - the oil is well up the dipstick even when cold. However, the correct way to check is warm.
I agree, great colour - almost as nice as mine!!
