Hi all,

A few years ago I was working in this big office block in Houston.

I couldn't help notice that many of the managers had 2 or 3 or 4 small coloured paper discs stuck to the door frame of their office door.

I think I asked at the time what it was all about,

Some one told me it was to do with personality profiling.

And was to do with what sort of person lived in that office.

Any one know what it is called ?

Probably Insights.
I'm very blue and the profiling was worryingly accurate.

I'm very blue/red and also found it startlingly accurate (despite my cynicism of the whole thing).

Blue - introverted. Science/nerdy/engineer types
Red - aggressive, assertive, temper
Yellow - friendly, collaborative
Green - can't remember

Google insights personality and you'll get all the info

The block descriptions are the clearest:

Blue = give me details
Yellow = involve me
Green= show me you care
Red = be brief, be bright, be gone

You are likely combinations of the above. I am mostly blue, a bit yellow, some green and hardly any red.

Probably why I bulleted the list in that way, lol.

Very interesting.

So in the office environment, is each person analysed by an external assessor to determine which colours one represents ?

It's handy to know what colour people are to know how to talk to them. Red people just want the headlines and to make the decisions. Blue want detail and will think about it, etc etc.

Being blue and red is odd as they are opposed to each other. They can be hard people to deal with!

Nope, complete opposite. You complete a multi choice questionnaire based around scenarios and what your reactions would be. As long as you answer it honestly it is highly accurate at describing your personality.

One guy in our team clearly answered how he thought he would be expected to and it was very obvious to everyone. Nothing fitted his personality.

'Enthousiastic' bothers me. Does that make me Blue? Or Red? Or a tt?

Me too. I had a full day of this year’s ago, and was told, “ Make sure your team are bright, grab your attention, and hit you with a number, otherwise they’ve got 30 seconds and you’re going to be reading something else, even if they’re sitting there” biggrin

That was 17 years ago, I would like to think I’ve become a bit less of a . biggrin

It is total and utter corporate bullst like this that I occasionally miss about no longer working in a large office.

Then I realise I have regained my sanity.

Its not total and utter bullst, it does generally sum up people quite well.

Ours is more split by roles; there are certain teams in the office who are mostly red, and others who are mostly greens. They need to be that way to do their jobs, but it does make 'working together' quite difficult.

I would swap these around. What colour would that put me in?

What does this profiling actually accomplish? What benefit does it bring to the workplace?

Not being facetious, I'm actually curious.
