Hi, Could you advise me on this item on ebay :- chimaera 450 5.0L item no 4542534252. (sorry not sure how to do a link)
Surely i thought a 450 was a 4.5L model and a 500 was a 5.0L model. I emailed the owner saying this because im interested in buying it , however he mailed back saying " No its a 450 but 5.0L is a rare edition " .
Does nt sound right to me , or is he correct and for some strange reason TVR did do this on a certain edition ?
Thanks for your help. Richard.

Maybe you could get the VIN details from him, and enquire at the factory.

As far as I know you are correct in saying that a 450 means 4.5l.
This follows on from the wedges,280,350,400 right through.

It's got the purple rocker covers which says 5L to me and the 500 wheels (I've seen quite a few 450's with the wheels though).
As a 450 with the 500 engine is a 500 it would seem quite an unusual special edition though. Could TVR have run out of 4.5L engines that day and shoved a 5L in it? Either that or its been changed or its not a 450 at all (My opinion).
I'd want to look through the history pretty closely (Although it doesn't mention it has any though) and check the engine number against the vin / owners manual.
Also seeing as the radiator is shot make sure the engine hasn't been run / overheated with it like that or you could be looking at head gaskets, warped heads etc.
Apart from the damage it does look like quite a nice one from the photo's.
GF.

Don't quite understand the pics, but it's a cheap car as long as the reserve isn't much higher.

the engine has come forward and the cat has hit the front x member, but how do you get the ding to the front of the x mamber without completely destroying the radiator (seems bent but not squashed) or the fan? It's obviously come to a sudden stop to let the engine come forward like that, but what's taken the impact? there's no strength in the fibreglass at the front of the car .. does the nearside forward vertical chassis section look damaged to anyone else here also?

Bottom line as always is go have a good look yourself .. but if I had 8k going spare and that's close to the reserve I'd a have a look at this car for sure .. seems easy enough repair on the face of it.

I'm not sure of the front of the X member is damaged, or whether its just the photograph.. and a section of the plastic coating has pinged/burned off or something as a result of the Cat impact perhaps.. if that was a dent there in the top X member then that Cable tie in the same spot would have been cut in two. Yes I agree there is a decent dent in the vertical seciton, and I'm guessing that that is the dent that the seller is referring to and trying to show in the photo.. I'm just trying to work out what will have hit the chassis there to make that sized dent (I'll wager its going to be a bugger to set up the geometry)

Cheers
Matt

Looks like it could have been fettled with a coat of Dulux + new cable tie to me (which would also account for the white line on the cat?). Maybe optical illusion but does look like top rail has been bent in/down slightly, & as Joo said with rad/fan/cowl??????. Would have thought it would need something like an RSJ puched thru the rad to do that kind of deformation.

Actially, looking again I think you are right.. its a new cable clip isnt it, over the top of a dent. Something must have punctured straight through the radiator at that point... eek !

I have to wonder why the current owner doesn't have it repaired and sold in good condition? He'd make more money.

I must be talking cp 'cause the man knows what he's talking about. But I know that the front end is a lot stonger than I'd have ever expected.

PS: Is this thread related to the "I've hit a stupid bollard" thread?

Thanks for all your replys, very helpfull. I,m not worried about the damage, looks quite simple if the price is right.
It sounds like you think like me ,theres no such thing as a 450 5.0L. Either he s wrong or its had an engine change, or he s dislecsick.
Bet i ve shot myself in the foot, you ll all go bid for it now!
Richard.

Looks like a easy repair,I can't see that the chassis is going to be bent, the x rail is the best place to absorb some impact without damaging to much else, may also need air filter, siren, that isn't listed,it may also have some stress fracturing in the fibreglass further up the body.
I bought a low mileage 97,500 cat D with heavier frontal damage for 8K (including all parts) last year,so if it can be had for arround 8k,it would be a good deal.

Then it would be a 500 not a 450.

I think the seller is a little bit possibly been sniffing too much optimax or banged his head on the bonnet when it fell of the latch.

If it's a 5litre it's a 500. If it's a 450 with an engine change he should say so.

Just thought it might be possible if there wern't any 4.5's at the time it may have got a 5l as a free upgrade but still badged it a 450, or it could have been a press test car ;-)
Bit of a long shot though.
