Very true. The amount of times you see it posted you’d think you would see people constantly spitting drinks out. It never happens.

I do agree with this, it's a truly irritating saying.

No one has ever spat coffee all over their key board upon reading something on here. It's just never happened.

Plus, I bet the majority of people use a tablet or phone to access the site these days, hence no physical keyboard to spit over.

It's all true I tell you. The coffee spotters are also those who 'laughed at that more than I should'. WTF is that stupid remark supposed to mean? There are so many people on here who use nonsensical expressions they've picked up because they think it's cool or clever and makes them sound like one of the in-crowd.
There are many but frozen sausages is a prime example.

Put them in the same category as the 'frozen sausage hammerers'. It's not funny and I'd argue it wsan't even funny the first time it was used

Respectfully disagree ... it was OJ (not coffee) over my old iPad mini keyboard case and the topic was the toilet incident with clowns running over jelly - I still genuinely laugh out loud when rereading - but haven’t for a little while now

OPer, you're right. We should all use the phrase, "LOL" when we find a post funny. No deviation. We must try to standardise everything on PH. It makes it easier to read and not be offended by something mild.

It has its uses. I was in a shop the other day and I overheard one shop assistant say to the other:

Assistant 1. "I'm thinking of having my spine removed"

Assistant 2. "huh, what?"

Assistant 1. "I feel it's holding me back"

If someone told me that lame joke I doubt I would have laughed, but hearing it unexpectedly like that made me laugh more than I should have hehe

I'll add 'strawman argument' as well.

Look at it from a different angle.

For those posters who don't express themselves by using these "quotes and expressions" they can look down on those who do, and sit smugly at their dry keyboards soaking up the warmth of their intellectual superiority tongue out
