Name the items in your house that have been a real good buy.

I'll nominate the tablet I'm writing this on, it's used constantly.

My towelling bathrobe, worn everyday, sometimes most of the day...

My wooden salt and pepper grinders, used at nearly every meal..

Wet wipes.
Simple item that is great on so many levels from wiping the crud off the bum of a very old sausage dog, to cleaning leather seats and door seals on a new Bentley.

I look at my old Victorian 'railway' clock on the wall several times every day and wind it once a week. It's close to being an essential part of my life.

Dual CS-505 turntable from a charity shop. £50, sounds great, I use it nearly every day.

Another turntable one. In my case a Thorens with an SME arm and Shure cartridge stuck on it. It still runs fine, despite having a really heavy turntable rotated by a rubber band that I have never replaced in 40 years.

It used to be connected to a Quad amplifier and electrostatic speakers, but nowadays I have to listen to the world through a couple of hearing aids and the deck merely feeds into my computer and a pair of small PMC speakers. Even MP3 quality is lost on me, but I keep it as it is a lovely bit of engineering.

I hope it's mated to a NAD 3020 and AR18s.

hp slate 21. it is a desktop tablet with a 21" screen. i bought this as i needed something that i could browse the net on with a big screen. it was flagged up on ph as a good buy.
i use it pretty much every day. i am housebound atm so useful for me.
if i am out of the house , then it would be my mobile.

edited to add , what makes it even more enjoyable for me is that it must be pretty much worthless smile

I remember a phrase something like...

"There are two things that you should spend money on. 1) a comfortable bed or 2) comfortable shoes because you are most likely to be in one of them".

I have still got a pair of AR18s. The cone surrounds have been replaced twice only in more than thirty years. They are driven by a Technics SU-7100 amp and a ReVox linear turntable. Hardly ever use them though... frown

I would imagine the spirit of the thread was intended to mean non essentials.

My Lág acoustic guitar. I wasn't playing my electrics much. Picked up the acoustic using bonus money and I pick it up every time I walk passed.

Multimeter. Used it to identify a faulty socket, laptop, tumble dryer and game boy. Saving a chunk of money in the process.
