Small things with big repercussions.
Discussion
In July I went camping in the Outer Hebrides.
Great.
However since then I have been 100% incapable of sleeping beyond 8am. Since my normal bed time is 3-5am I am finding this unhelpful. Nothing is changing no matter what I do so it seems that my body has chosen to permanently reset itself without my permission.
What seemingly innocuous things have you done that ended up with a long tail of effects on the rest of your life?
Great.

Why?Great.

Why is usual bedtime 3-5am?
I presume the Hebrides was waking you up because of daylight through the tent, but why should that persist once you're back in a presumably darkened house?

Why?
I wish I knew why, but since that trip I have been completely incapable of sleeping beyond 8. Before that I'd normally kip happily through to 11-12 ish. My body is unbelievably fussy so it doesn't take much to upend it. I wasn't expecting it to be a permanent modification but it seems to be so.
The wee small hours are my most productive and it's been like that since I was a kid. If I try going to bed before 2 ish I'll lay there like a sack of spuds until 3-5.

8am is plenty long enough! Get up and get going!
3 hours sleep for months in a row isn't really enough. Edited by bloomen on Monday 30th October 14:22
The Piccadilly line train I was on broke down, south of Southgate in July 1977, so I was an hour late for the most important meeting in my life. A long story. Far too long for this thread. But if the train had been on time, everything would be completely different. I wouldn't live here in the Scottish Highlands, write music for a living, or be married to the lady I am.
Funny things, trains.... and small moments.

A friend of mine was created after their parents met under the Queen St station clock in Glasgow when each of them were stood up by their respective dates for the night. Funny things, trains.... and small moments.

In a nutshell?
(I'm intrigued)
I was auditioning to do a degree in music and drama, for which I lied about having the requisite qualifications. I was told to bring the certificates to the audition. (I was ready and prepared to get thrown out at the door - it was 1977 remember!). (I'm intrigued)
I was a van delivery driver at the time.
When I arrived an hour late after the train broke down, the woman with the clipboard said "You'd better go straight through, they've already started, just make sure you bring your certificates on the first day of term if you're accepted".
I was accepted, I didn't bring the certificates, nobody asked, and 3 years later I had a career in the music biz... oh and my new best mate (from the course) told me his dad was selling his house in the Scottish Highlands... you get the drift.
Small moments.

You made your own luck there, chap. I was a van delivery driver at the time.
